PITTSBORO — Elexie Hensley Nelms, 85, of Pittsboro, NC, died Tuesday, April 16, 2013.

A native of Asheville, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Dallas A. Hensley and Bessie Hipshire Hensley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Thomas Nelms. Mrs. Nelms was a member of Sanford Church of God.

Mrs. Nelms is survived by her daughter, Gilda Nelms Stanley and husband Larry; son, Charles Dallis Nelms and wife Jean; grandchildren, Heather Stanley Underwood and Kristye Nelms Dillingham; great-grandson, Christopher James Dillingham; sister, MackSeane Gray Southerland and husband Stanley; and brother, Joe Dallas Hensley and wife Carol.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kevin Chapman officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

DUNN — Annette Spencer Riddle, 73, died Wednesday (4/17/13) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

She was born in Warwick County, Va. on Dec. 20, 1939, to the late Archie Spencer and Dorothy Latham Spencer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy L. Riddle, and two sons, Rodney B. Riddle and Richard D. Riddle. She attended Lee County schools and was a 1958 graduate of Sanford Central High School. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Dunn and was a supervisor in quality control for Thomas Mfg. Company in Thomasville.

She is survived by two sons, Ronnie Riddle of Fuquay-Varina and Randy Riddle of Dunn; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the graveside service at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. and a graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Jones Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery with the Rev. David Sherrod presiding.

CARTHAGE — Ernest Gray Harris, 82, died Wednesday (4/17/13) at the FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. James Cagle and the Rev. Matthew Privett. Burial will follow with military honors in the church cemetery.

A native of Moore County, he was a son of the late Thomas and Katherine McKenzie Harris. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a lifelong farmer. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where he had served as Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, on the Board of Trustees, chairman of the deacons and choir leader.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Waddell Christian Harris; daughter, Lisa Kruse and husband Richard of Pinehurst; sons, Lynn Harris and wife Martha, Doug Harris and wife Theresa, and Don Harris, all of Carthage, Mark Harris and wife Robin of Charlotte, and Scott Harris of Alexandria, Va.; sister, Ann McRae of Clinton, Tenn.; brothers, Lloyd Harris of Aberdeen, Coy Harris of Alexandria, Va., and Norman Harris and Johnny Harris, both of West End; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home today from 6 until 8 p.m. and other times at the residence.

HAMPTON, VA — William Isaac "Bubba"  Coston Jr., of 1478 Morgan St., died Monday (4/15/13) in Sentera Careplex Hospital, Hampton, Va.

SANFORD — Della Reed, 79, of 406 Saunders St., died Sunday (4/14/13) at her residence.

She is survived by one daughter, Stella Louise McLean (Percy) of Sanford; two sisters, Geneva Headen of Sanford and Hattie Mae Farmer of the home; a foster sister, Lillie Monroe of Olivia; a daughter-in-law, Betty Gilmore of Sanford; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at True Gospel Church. Burial will follow at Murchison Cemetery in Olivia.

SILER CITY — Benton Addison Scotten, 87, died Wednesday (4/17/13) at UNC Hospitals at Chapel Hill.

He was born in Moore County on Aug. 21, 1925, the son of Clester Roster and Lora (Davis) Scotten. He was a W.W. II veteran of the Marine Corps, where he served in the battle of Iwo Jima and the occupation of Japan. He retired from J.P. Stevens as a truck driver after 29 years of service. He attended the Siler City Pentecostal Holiness Church.

He is survived by his wife, Ada Mae (Watson) Scotten; two sons, John B. Scotten of Siler City and Marty Scotten and wife Debbie of Staley; one sister, Nellie Gray McMahon of Siler City; and three grandchildren.

A graveside service with military honors will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Brush Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Bear Creek with the Rev. Mark Richardson officiating. The family will be at the family home, 1001 Lake Drive, Siler City.
