VASS — Eleanor Marguerite Gaede McFall, 85, died Friday (2/15/13) at her home.

Shel was born in Alexandria, Va., on Aug. 4, 1927, to Charles and Edith Gladwell Gaede. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Edith Gladwell Gaede, and her husband, Everette McFall.

She is survived by two daughters, Mariann D. Ghormley of Vass and Cynthia L. Cote of Arizona; one brother, Dehart Doyle of Virginia; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be held at a later date.

CARTHAGE — Julius Nasir Johnson, 2, died Thursday (2/14/13) at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

Funeral service will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. in the Carthage Elementary School Auditorium. Burial will follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery. There will be a viewing today from 1 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

He is survived by his father, Robert Johnson III; mother, LaShonda Belk; one sister, Jameeah Belk; two brothers, Robert Johnson IV and Damarre Johnson; grandparents, Betty Howard (Thomas), Johnny Belk (Betty), and Wanda Johnson and Robert Johnson II; and great-grandparents, Sarah Mason, Anita Johnson, David Howard and Minnie Howard.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Cleven Canzater, 64, who died Sunday (2/10/13), was held at 3 p.m. Monday at Bethel Baptist Church in Blythewood, S.C. Burial was at the church cemetery.

Surviving are daughter, Penny Dowdy of the home; mother, Maxine Canzater; siblings, Willie Canzater, Dorothy Dowdy, Michael Canzater, Robert Canzater, Leroy Canzater, Odell Canzater and James Canzater, all of South Carolina, and Calvin Canzater of Indiana; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

CAMERON — Elsie Armstrong, 54, died Tuesday (2/19/13) at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Pugh & Smith Funeral Home of Carthage.


THE VILLAGES, Fla. — Carolyn Jay Grossfuss, 76, died Sunday (2/17/13).

She was born in Detroit, Mich., and moved to The Villages from Nashville, N.C., in 2001. She was a member of New Covenant United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Mich.

She is survived by two sons, Kevin J. (Elizabeth) Grossfuss of Sanford and Keith A. (Mary) Grossfuss of Elm City; sister, Doris Jean Stuckey, Troy, Mich.; and three grandsons.

A memorial service will be held at the Lady Lake Chapel of Beyers Funeral Home on Thursday at 1 p.m. Inurnment will be in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla.

CAMERON — Mark Henry Berube, 58, died Sunday (2/17/13).

He was born Oct. 24, 1954, in Oneonta, N.Y., to the late Rene Osbourne Berube and Geraldine Eaton Berube. He was preceded in death by his mother, Geraldine Cook.

He is survived by his son, Darren Berube; siblings, Susie Faircloth, Lisa Malson, Iris Brown and James Cook; and stepfather, Jim Cook.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Feb. 24, at 3 p.m. at Miller-Boles Funeral Home Chapel.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to Miller-Boles Funeral Home for the Berube Funeral Fund.
