MAYBELLINE HARPER MOSES

SANFORD — Maybelline Harper Moses, 76, died Sunday (2/24/13) at her home.

She was born in Johnston County on Nov. 6, 1936, to the late Bertie Mae Harper Langdon. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Harper Patterson; one granddaughter; one grandson, and brother, Bobby Ray Harper Sr. and his wife Judy. She was retired from GKN.

She is survived by her husband, Wilbur Troy Moses; one son, Jeffrey Troy Moses and wife Terri of Sanford; two daughters, Jessie Lucus and husband James of Four Oaks, and Melinda Moses Carlyle and husband Tony of Cameron; brother, Charles Johnson and wife Debbie of Hampstead; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and several nephews.

The family will receive friends today from 6 until 8 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at Hickory Grove Advent Christian Church in Four Oaks from 10 until 11 a.m. Wednesday. The funeral will be held at Hickory Grove Advent Christian Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Bob Copeland presiding. Burial will follow at Four Oaks Cemetery.

MARK HENRY BERUBE

SANFORD — Memorial service for Mark Henry Berube was held Sunday at Miller-Boles Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Walker officiating.

Three special songs were played during the service.

Following the service, the family met with friends in the chapel reception area.

FLORA ALEANE STEWART CAMPBELL

SANFORD — Flora Aleane Stewart Campbell, 71, died Sunday (2/24/13) at her home.

She was born on Dec. 21, 1941, to the late Thelma Lucille Stewart Stone. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. She formerly worked for Coty.

She is survived by her husband, Reid Perry Campbell; a son, Ray Perry Campbell of Sanford; two daughters, Angela Campbell Norton and husband Howard of Lillington and Natalie Campbell Cockman and husband Tracy of Bunnlevel; two sisters, Lynette Bunn of Surf City and Thelma Cox of Bennett; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home. The funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Overhills Community Baptist Church in Linden with the Rev. Roy McLamb and the Rev. Jonathan Newton officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Methodist Church Cemetery.

DORIS LUCILLE WELTY WEST THOMAS

SANFORD — Funeral service for Doris Lucille Welty West Thomas, 89, who died Friday (2/22/13), was conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at Moore Union Christian Church with the Rev. David Yarborough officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

Soloist was Tracy Lee and pianist was Teresa Yarborough. The congregation sang two selections.

Pallbearers were Tim West, Michael McDonald, Tony Kelly, Bobby Gene Kelly, Grey Kelly, Frank West and John Fletcher.

Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

ROBERT DYCUS

SANFORD — Funeral service for Robert Dycus, 83, who died Thursday (2/21/13), was held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Center United Methodist Church with the Rev. Chris D. Humphreys officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

The congregation sang three selections. Pianist was Phillip Lloyd and organist was Becky Thomas.

Pallbearers were Mike Cranford, Gaither Dycus Jr., Justin Dycus, Johnny Holt, Roy Holt and Seth Holt.

The family received friends following the funeral service at Center United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.

ROBERT W. SHAW

SANFORD — Robert W. (Peanut) Shaw, 68, of 500 Dudley St., died Sunday (2/24/13) at the VA Medical Center in Durham.

The family will receive friends at 1907 Knollwood Drive.

MARY PRIVOTT RAY

BROADWAY — Funeral service for Mary Privott Ray, 91, was conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Leaflet Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Terry Williams and Jim Shaw officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Sean Ray, Jay Spitzer, Jamerson Buckner, Jon Almond, Brian Thomas and Angel Lugo.

DEMERY MACK AUSTIN

BUIES CREEK — Demery Mack Austin, 79, died Sunday (2/24/13) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

He was born in Smith County, Miss., son of the late Daniel McKeice Austin and Lilla Rhodes Austin. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Elbert Ray Austin and Hulon Cade Austin. He served 27 years in the U.S. Army, retiring in 1980 as a Chief Warrant Officer 4. He then spent a total of 10 years working as a Properties Manager in Saudi Arabia on a contract between the U.S. Government and the Saudi Arabian National Guard. He was a member of Buies Creek First Baptist Church. He was a past President of the Harnett County Shrine Club and the Buies Creek Lions Club, as well as a member of the Military Officers Association and the Warrant Officers Association.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Buies Creek First Baptist Church with Dr. Michael Simmons officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens with full military honors. The family will receive friends at O’Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home today from 6 until 8 p.m.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Gregory Austin; son, Ronnie Austin and wife Jodi of Ormond Beach, Fla.; daughter, Diane Austin of Fayetteville; stepdaughters, Sherrie VanderVeen of Clarkston, Mich., and Kim Howard of Buies Creek; and four grandchildren.

PITTSBORO — Stephen Harris, 83, of 81 Charlie Perkins Road, died Friday (2/22/13).

Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Russell Chapel AME Zion Church in Pittsboro. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

No wake will be held.

He is survived by one son, Steve Junior Harris (Linda) of Moncure; one daughter, Faydene Harris of Butner; two stepsons, Joe Perkins (Sandra) of Apex and Earl Perkins (Gladys) of Newton, Ga.; one sister, Emma McIver; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

FRANCES CRABTREE COOPER

PITTSBORO — Frances Crabtree Cooper, 82, died Saturday (2/23/13) at the Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro.

She was born in Chatham County on Oct. 1, 1930, daughter of the late Herman D. Crabtree and Flossie Brown Crabtree Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, George L. Cooper.

Memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Rock Springs Baptist Church by the Rev. Tommy Faust. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Lloyd E. Cooper; two sons, Edward “Ed” Cooper (Ginny) of Kinston and Danny L. Cooper (Donna) of Pittsboro; one sister, Lois C. Paschal of Oregon; one brother, William Smith of Pittsboro; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
