AKRON BALDWIN ELKINS

BROADWAY — Akron Baldwin Elkins, 81, died Thursday (2/28/13) at the Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro.

She was born in Forsyth County, daughter of the late Robert Sherman Baldwin and Florence Rash Baldwin. She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Virginia Baldwin, Bernice Lineberry, Floyd Baldwin and Robert Baldwin; and her husband, Carl Elkins. She was a member of Juniper Springs Baptist Church and was retired from the ABC Commission.

Funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Juniper Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Lee and the Rev. John Hackney officiating. Burial will follow at the Broadway Town Cemetery.

She is survived by daughters, Patsy Rogers and husband Paul, and Debra Morison and husband Danny, all of Sanford; son, David Elkins and wife Debbie of Sanford; brothers, Sherman Baldwin and Warren Baldwin, both of Florida; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2 until 3 p.m. Sunday at Juniper Springs Baptist Church and other times at the home of Paul and Patsy Rogers, 193 Peppermill Road.

WILLARD D. CRUMP

SANFORD — Willard D. Crump, 73, of 113 West Forest Oak Drive, died Tuesday (2/26/13) at his residence.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Apostle Zenobia Crump; two sons, George Ed Murchison and Bryan Crump, both of Sanford; four daughters, Jacqueline Goldston (Paul) of Sanford, Justine Crump of Durham, Anita Ackers of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Vanessa Perry (Darren) of Monroe; one brother, John Faucette of Sanford; two sisters, Classy Thompson (Jimmy) of Monroeville, Pa., and Barbara Taylor of Sanford; 23 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Christ Church Of Deliverance. Burial will follow at church cemetery.

ROSENDO LOMAS

SANFORD — Rosendo (Rosi) Lomas, 84, died Thursday (2/28/13) at Duke University Hospital in Durham.

He was born in El Paso, Texas, on April 13, 1928.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth (Betty); his sister, Anna Brinkley; 13 children, Greg Lomas (Pat), Donna Lomas (Lee Juarez), Dave Lomas (Kris), Vickie Lomas, Suzanne Lomas (Gordy Harrison), John Lomas, Diane Williams (Sam), Martha Powell (Jon), Mary Bay (Jim), Sylvia Spotts (Roger), Mathew Lomas (Yvette Nout-Lomas), Peter Lomas, Teresa Moshier (Howard); and 24 grandchildren.

He worked for Ford Motor Company as a Mechanical Engineer for 36 years and Lawrence Technological University as Chairman of Technology for eight years.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Stephen the First Martyr Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 5. Rite of Committal will follow at the church cemetery.

LOIS TOLLISON MCGEE

CARTHAGE — Lois Tollison McGee, 102, died Thursday (2/28/13) at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Carthage First Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Ray Campbell and the Rev. Jeff Roberts. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall. Private interment will be at Cross Hill Cemetery.

A native of Laurens, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Thomas T. and Sara Elizabeth Davenport Tollison. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, and volunteered for the Carthage area of the Sandhills Coalition for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Howell McGee.

She is survived by daughters, Doris Weinberg and husband Richard, and Linda Eelman and husband Robert, all of Pinehurst, and Jean Baker of High Shoals; sister, Floree T. Wilson of Laurens, S.C.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

SANFORD — James Utley, 72, died Thursday (2/28/13) at Lee County Nursing and Rehab. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Knotts Funeral Home.

SILER CITY — L. Rachel Barker, 78, of 1655 Hal Clark Road, died Thursday (2/28/13) at her residence.

Funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Moon's Chapel Baptist Church where she was a member with the Rev. Scott Faw officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

She was a Chatham County native and was a EKG technician. She was the daughter of the late Johnie H. and Dena Hicks Barker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, David Barker.

She is survived by daughter, Kimberly Phillips of the home; sons, Gary Phillips of Bennett and Ronnie Dean Phillips of Mineral Springs; brothers, Johnie H. Barker Jr. of Bennett, Earl Barker of Sanford and Virgil Barker of Siler City; sisters, Allene Hart, Virginia Justice and Frances Gilmore, all of Siler City, Christine Harris of High Point and Juanita Richardson of Bear Creek; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Sunday at 2 p.m., one hour prior to the funeral service at Moon's Chapel Baptist Church.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Robert Wade Shaw, 68, who died Sunday (2/24/13), was held at 2 p.m. Friday at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. George Dark and Pastor Sharon McIver officiating. Burial was at First Church Disciple of Christ Cemetery in Broadway.

Sons of Destiny and Dorothy Matthews was soloist.

Pallbearers were friends of the family.

DAVID PATRICK LINNEY III

SANFORD — Memorial service for David Patrick Linney III, 63, who died Tuesday (2/26/13), was held Friday at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Arnold B. Lovell and Wendell McGee, CLP officiating.

Organist was Dianne Stanley. The praise team sang a selection and the congregation also sang.

SANFORD — Zaire E. Smith, 17, of 433 Deer View Road, died Sunday (2/24/13) at home.

She is survived by her father, Mendell McQueen; mother, Tiffany Smith; brothers, Jaydon, Jasim and Mendell; sisters, Cheyenne, Anissa and Brittan.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, at Romulus Community Baptist Church in Romulus, Mich. Burial will be at United Memorial Gardens in Plymouth Township, Mich. Visitation will be held today from 3 until 6 p.m. at Colvin Funeral Home & Crematory in Fayetteville.
