BEAR CREEK — Wanda Jones Bray, 62, of Bear Creek, died Saturday (4/12/14) at Duke University Medical Center in Durham. Mrs. Bray was born Dec. 12, 1951, the daughter of Samuel "Reid" and Elsie Brafford Jones.

Mrs. Bray was a native of Chatham County, and was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church. Wanda was a Family Nurse Practitioner. She taught nursing at Sandhills Community College, Central Carolina Community College in Pittsboro and Winston Salem State University. She worked with Chatham Medical Specialist in Siler City, Park View In-Home Care in Sanford, The Family Doc in Sanford, Minute Clinic and with Onsite Care of Rocky Mount. She is preceded in death by her father, Samuel "Reid" Jones.

She is survived by husband: Craig Bray of the home, daughter, Ashleigh Lemons (husband Travis) of Bear Creek; mother, Elsie Brafford Jones of Siler City; brother, Sam Jones (wife Angela) of Asheboro; granddaughter, Brayleigh Lemons; brother-in-law, Rodger Jones of Bear Creek; sister-in-law, Connie Jones of Greensboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will Monday (4/14/14) from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Smith & Buckner Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday (4/15/14) at Tyson's Creek Baptist Church, 10891 Siler City-Glendon Road, Bear Creek, with Rev. Scott Walker and Rev. Mark Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

RALEIGH — Murphy Eugene “Bud” Holder, 88, passed away Friday (4/11/14) at Hospice of Wake County in Raleigh.

A native of Harnett County, Bud was born April 3, 1926 to the late Atlas Eugene Holder and Whittie Suggs Holder. He graduated from Bells High School in 1944 and attended Louisburg College and Duke University. He was a member of Ebenezer UMC and Pittsboro UMC.

Bud met Nellie McCormick while managing the old Chatham Movie Theater in Pittsboro. Married in 1954, their love spanned 56 years before her passing on April 13, 2010. In the early days, Bud was a farmer who also built and owned Seaforth Lake, which is now part of Jordan Lake. Later in life, he became a successful realtor. He was an avid pilot and used his single engine Cessna airplane a great deal with his real estate business. Bud loved fishing in Ocracoke, N.C. and Port St. Lucie, Fl., where he and Nellie had vacation homes. Two of his recent highlights were being able to fly to Florida to visit his sister and visit RDU airport to watch planes come and go. Bud loved to laugh and always had a good joke to tell.

In addition to his wife and parents, Bud is preceded in death by his grandson, Christopher Holder; and his sister, Dorothy “Dot” Toothman.

He is survived by his son, Gene Holder of Archdale; his two daughters, Gaynelle Knight (Vance) of Raleigh and Sharon Shehdan (Lin) of Raleigh; his two grandchildren, Ian Holder of Seward, Alaska and Meredith Shehdan of Raleigh; and his brother-in-law, Hank Toothman of Jupiter, Fl.

A graveside service for Mr. Holder will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday (4/13/14) at Hanks Chapel UCC cemetery in Pittsboro. A light reception and family visitation will follow at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 396 West St. Pittsboro, NC, after the service.

In lieu of flowers, tax-deductible donations may be sent to the Harold Boone Memorial Scouting Fund, Inc. in care of Thomas J. George, 147 Acorn Lane, Pittsboro, NC 27312 in support of local Scout Troop 93.

CHERAW, S.C. — Larry C. Maynor, 64, died Friday (4/11/14). Born in Troy, he was a son of the late James Franklin and Tiny Mae Chappel Maynor. He enjoyed NASCAR racing and fishing.

Surviving is his wife, Linda O. Maynor of Cheraw, S.C.; a son, John Tracy (Jamie) Maynor of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Susie (Ricky) Pace of Cheraw, S.C.; brothers, William (Jeannie) Maynor of Sanford, John Frank Maynor of Lakewells, Fl., Mark Maynor of Cheraw, S.C.; grandchildren, Erica Pace, Morgan Tucker and Kellam Maynor; great grandchildren, Eryne McLaughlin, Logan Owens, Haven Owens, Thorn Tucker and Lawton Tucker.

He was preceded in death by his parents, listed above, and a sister, Brenda Nadeau.

The family will receive friends 3-4 p.m. Monday (4/14/14) at Kiser Funeral Home in Cheraw, S.C. A memorial service will be held following the visitation at 4 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

CHARLOTTE — Marshall Lee Yandle, 91, of Charlotte, died Wednesday (4/9/14).

He was born August 2, 1922, a son of the late A.B. Yandle and Mary Helms Yandle. He was preceded in death by two sons, Patrick Wayne Yandle and George P. Yandle; brothers, Casey Yandle and A.B. Yandle Jr.; sisters, Frances Rice and Ethel Mae Hayes.

He served in the U.S. Army, retired from Celanese Corp. and volunteered with his wife for 32 years for the Senior Lunch Program at Mulberry Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rebecca Anne Yandle; sons, Marshall Yandle Jr. and wife Roberta, Michael Yandle and David Yandle; daughter, Jane Jones and husband Jeff; brother, Rev. Robert R. Yandle and wife Jeanette; sister, Dolly Yandle Blair; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Among special nieces and nephews were three from Sanford.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church, 10301 Harwood Lane, Charlotte, where he was a member.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Wednesday just prior to the service at the church.



BROADWAY — Patricia Baker-Wooten, 36, of Broadway, died Wednesday (4/9/14) at her home.

SANFORD — Frances Allen, 90, of 1023 Vance Street, Sanford, died Friday (4/11/14) at her residence.

She is survived by one brother, Robert Scrulock of Pittsboro; two sisters-in-law, Lillie Tuck and Betty Jean Allen, both of Sanford; six daughters, Doris Allen Boykin (Curtis) of Sanford, Julia Allen of Macon, Ga., Joan Miller (Joe) and Magdeline Stokes, both of Greensboro, and Josephine Lucus and Katheline Allen, both of Sanford; three sons, Luther Allen (Sirenda), Ronnie Allen (Cornelius) and Dwayne Allen, all of Sanford; 26 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and others.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday (4/14/14) at Mt. Sinai Holiness Church, Sanford. Burial will follow at Lee Memory Garden, Sanford.

SANFORD — Margie Pyles Fong, 78 of Sanford died Friday (4/11/14) at Sanford Health and Rehab. Memorial services will be held Saturday (4/19/14) at Greenwood Cemetery in Shreveport, La.

Born Dec. 7, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Manuel Dickson Pyles and Ruby Eubanks Pyles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ulim Fong Sr.; brother, Dickson Pyles; sister, Evelyn Pyles Stewart; and a son, Phillip Fong. She worked as manager of NanKings Restaurant.

She is survived by Barbara Fong Walton (husband Dave) of Sanford; Debbie Fong Baker (husband Bill) of Clemmons; Linda Gale Fong of Sanford; and son Ulim Fong Jr. (wife Tina) of Tolono, Ill.; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

GOLDSTON — Funeral service for Eldridge Preston “E.P.” McLeod, 76, of Goldston, who died Wednesday (4/9/14) was held Saturday (4/12/14) at 11 a.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Larry Martin officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church Cemetery in Vass.

Recorded music was played.

Pallbearers were Victor Munoz, Jesus Munoz, Antonio Munoz, Federico Martos, Gregorio Bueno, and Yaliil Bueno.
