HELEN ELIZABETH ROE

SANFORD — Helen Elizabeth "Betty" Roe, 79, died Saturday (7/27/13) at home.

She was formerly of Saratoga, N.Y., and retired from the state of New York to North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Roe.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Adcock Funeral Home.

She is survived by her daughter, Joann Hamilton and her husband Paul of Sanford; sons, Jody Roe and his wife Yun of Palmer, Alaska, and Kenneth Roe of Sanford; three grandchildren and great-grandson.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Liberty Hospice, 1005 Carthage St., Sanford, N.C. 27332.

JAMES E. MCDOUGALD

SPRING LAKE — James E. “Mac” “Jeff” McDougald, 73, died Monday (7/29/13) at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.

A native of Harnett County, he was the son of the late James and Corena Walker McDougald and was preceded in death by his brother, Lenard McDougald. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and retired as an administrator with the Federal Aviation Administration after 44 years of service.

Memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at Northwood Temple in Fayetteville with the Rev. John Hedgepeth officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Q. McDougald; seven children; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.; sisters, Erata McDougald and Juanita Wilkerson, both of Raleigh, and Carolyn McPhatter of Fayetteville; and brother, Ronald McDougald of Bunnlevel.

JAMES BENJAMIN FOX

SANFORD — SCPO James Benjamin “Bud” Fox, US Navy Retired, 66, died Monday (7/29/13).

Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church by Dr. Jeff Clark.

He was born in Sarasota, Fla., son of the late James B. Fox Sr. and the late Claire Stevenson Fox. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a SCPO.

He is survived by his wife, Gretchen G. Fox; one daughter, Michelle Mashburn of Munford, Tenn.; two sisters, Susie Powers of Florida and Patricia Cheesman of Alabama; one brother, Richard “Dickie” McCracken of Florida; two grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will greet friends following the service.

SANFORD — Wendy Lea McNeill, 44, of Lynchburg, Va., formerly of Sanford, died Sunday (7/28/13) in Lenoir. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Miller-Boles Funeral Home.

LILLINGTON — Julian Zarycki Jr., 73, died Monday (7/29/13) at Hospice of Wake County Hospice House.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Dominican Republic.

Funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at O’Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home Chapel with Father Jack Kelly officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. prior to the service.

He is is survived by his wife, Anita; four sons, Marc Zarycki and wife Deanna, Jason Zarycki, Steven Zarycki and wife Diane, and Travis Zarycki, all of Michigan; a daughter, Kristen Zarycki of Michigan; and eight grandchildren.

MATTIE MCNEILL STEWART

SANFORD — Mattie McNeill Stewart, 89, died Tuesday (7/30/13) at the home of her daughter.

Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lemon Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was born on Aug. 5, 1923, in Lee County, to the late Ivey Jackson (I.J.) McNeill and Ada Blanche McNeill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Max Stewart Sr.; and brothers and sisters: Edison McNeill, John McNeill, Jessie McNeill Crutchfield, Margaret McNeill, Nellie McNeill Thomas and Annie Mae McNeill Graves. She attended Greenwood High School and East Carolina Teachers College.

She is survived by children, Harry Stewart and wife Kathy of Hughesville, Md., Linda Stewart Weathington and husband J.D. of Lemon Springs, Billy Stewart and wife Sara of Chapel Hill, Barbara Stewart Colson and husband Robert of Richmond, Va., and Carolyn Stewart Dull and husband David of Sanford; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
