SANFORD — Charles Michael “Mike” Thomas, 59, of Sanford, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013.

A Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke United Methodist Church by Dr. Jeff Clark. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall at First Baptist Church.

Mike was born in Lee County and preceded in death by his father, A. Scott Thomas and a brother, Richard Thomas. He was an active member of First Baptist Church serving many capacities including Deacon, chaired the Building and Grounds Committee, served on the Finance Committee, an usher, member of the Transportation Committee where he drove the church bus on many youth trips, and mission trips. He was a RA teacher, on the Baptism Committee, a greeter, sang in the Praise Choir, on the Sunday night cooking committee, and played church softball.

Mike also served his community. He was a member of the Civitan Club where he was a Boy Scout leader for the children of Floyd Knight School, a Charter Member of the San Lee Sunrise Rotary Club, where he was Rotarian of the Year, past Sgt. at Arms, a Paul Harris Fellow, and co-chaired the Family Assistance Program. Currently he was a member of the Jonesboro Rotary Club. He was a past board member of the Sanford Area Chamber of Commerce, and on the Board of Directors of Buffalo Lake. He also was a past coach for recreation baseball and softball at Northview.

Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife, Judy S. Thomas; daughters, Audrey Jo T. Stone and husband Bill of Sanford and Martha Elizabeth T. Moore and husband Thomas of Holly Springs; his mother, Joann Cotton Thomas of Sanford; mother-in-law and father-in-law, A.G. and Audrey Siegner of Sanford; sister-in-law, Carolyn Spivey and husband David of Sanford; brother-in-law, Andy Siegner and wife Bonnie of Bear Creek; many nieces and nephews.

Mike was a man of God with a "Servant's Heart." He had an overflowing love for his wife, girls, family and friends and was a devoted son. Mike's spirit endures in the abundant gift of love he left to all those he cared for so dearly.

SANFORD — Funeral service for James Michael Seymore, 67, who died Friday (7/26/13), was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Buffalo Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Paul J. Shields. Burial followed at the Buffalo Cemetery.

During the service, the congregation sang and the Buffalo Presbyterian Church Choir sang. Pianist was Pat Kelly.

Pallbearers were Jeff Cashion, Larry Collins, Brooks Kelly, Buddy McNeill, Chris McRae and Lee Setzer.

SANFORD — Beverly Lendell McLean, 60, of 2509 Minter School Road, died Tuesday (7/30/13) at her residence. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by C.E. Willie Funeral & Cremation Services.


SANFORD — Wendy Lea McNeill, 44, of Lynchburg, Va., formerly of Sanford, died Sunday (7/28/13) in Lenoir.

She was a teacher. She was born on Feb. 13, 1969 in Lee County to James and Barbara Davis. She was predeceased by her father, James Davis; and grandparents, Helton Davis, Lexie Odom, Charlie and Frances Shaw.

She is survived by her husband, Christopher McNeill; son, Brandon McNeill, and daughter, Taylor McNeill; mother, Barbara Davis of Sanford; sister, Kristy Davis of Sanford; brother, Jimmy Davis of Thibodaux, La.; two nephews and one niece.

A visitation will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Miller-Boles Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Holly Springs Baptist Church in Broadway. Interment to follow at the church cemetery.
