ROBERT HARRY SEARS SR.

SANFORD — Robert Harry Sears Sr., 72, of Sanford, North Carolina passed away in his residence on Saturday, August 3, 2013.

Bob was an avid Amateur Ham Radio Operator, call sign W4WZR. He served in the Coast Guard and was a local Fire Fighter in Keyport, New Jersey. He was an active parishioner in the Catholic Church and served as a Third Degree Knight of Council #9847.

A Catholic Mass will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Fayetteville. The family will receive friends at visitations held on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Adcock Funeral Home.

He is survived by his wife, Sally Sears; son, Robert Harry Sears Jr. and his wife, Colleen; daughter, Michelle A. Feeney and her husband Sean; sisters, Patricia White and Sandra Trzaska; brother, Harry E. Sears Jr.; grandchildren, Ella Anne Sears and Julien Alexander Feeney; nieces, Kimberly Sears Sullivan, Magen Ann Sears and Ashley Sullivan; nephews, Patrick J. Sears, Edward Sears and Westley Sears; and his loving special companion, Mr. Buddy, his Jack Russell Terrier.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 3131 Wrightsville Avenue, Wilmington, N.C. 28403.

SANFORD — Mrs. Helen Matthews Cameron, age 83, died Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at Miller-Boles Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Lee Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. before the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Cameron was born January 23, 1930 in Harnett County, N.C. to the late Willie Ray Matthews and Electa Amy Betts Matthews. She was a member of the New Life Praise Church and loved to volunteer at the Lee County Senior Enrichment Center for many years. She retired from Lancer Furniture Mfg. in Star, N.C. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Frances Bass of Dunn, NC.

She is survived by her sons, Carl Smith and wife Carolyn of Sanford, Wayne Smith of Sanford, Ray Smith and wife Louise of Sanford, Michael Smith and wife Susan of Candor, Woodrow Smith of Oklahoma City, Okla.; her daughters, Alice Buchanan and husband Alfred of Sanford, Faye Knight and husband Tommy of Goldston, Frances Smith of Tucson, Ariz.; her sister, Ruby Lee Ray of Sanford, 15 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren.

SANFORD — Annis Ionia McDougald Pulley Gaines, 100, of 3613 Renee Drive, died Saturday (8/3/13) at Liberty Hospice.

She is survived by her children, Peggy Brinkley, Frances Pulley, Lola Wilson (Elmer), Robert Pulley (Annie) and Sandra Greene (Kortwright); 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Union Grove Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

EAGLE SPRINGS — Rev. Morris Lee Barber, 79, died Saturday (8/3/13) at Peak Resources - Pinelake, Carthage.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pleasant View Friends Church in Eagle Springs with the Rev. Don Luellen and the Rev. Jacelyn Jones officiating.

He was born on June 13, 1934, in Alamance County to the late William Silas and Lula Ethel Wagoner Barber. He has been a resident of Moore County since his retirement from full-time ministry with the United Methodist Church in June 1996.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by brothers, Max Gardner Barber and Layton Herman Barber; and a sister, Edna Janet Barber.

He is survived by his wife, Leoma; sons, Jonathan Craig Barber and wife Brenda of Mount Holly, Marcus David Barber and wife Dawn of Apex, and Bradford William Barber and wife Trish of Forest, Va.; daughter, Marcia Barber Gooch and husband Steve of Durham; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Virginia Crowder and Carolyn Cook, both of Greensboro, and Marie Zimmerman of Arkansas.

The church choir sang and soloist was Muriel Allen.

SANFORD — Johnsie Mae Brown died Thursday (8/1/13) at Central Carolina Hospital.

She was born April 7, 1948, to the late Jim Quick and Blanche Marie Quick. She graduated from W.B. Wicker High School. She was a member of Emmanuel Glorious Church of God. She worked as a sewing machine operator.

She is survived by her husband, Otis Brown; children, Tony Quick, Roderick Quick, Ellis Covington, Sharon Quick Moore (James), Alison Murphy (Thomas) and Miranda Ammerson; two brothers, Nelson Quick (Pat) and Laymond Brown; two sisters, Alberta McLean and Theodora Brown; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Emmanuel Glorious Church of God. Viewing will be held one hour prior to service.

ANGIER — Sherrill W. Giles, 81, died Monday (8/5/13) at the Wake County Hospice Home in Raleigh.

He was born in Harnett County, the son of the late John William and Mattie Hawley Giles.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Frances Giles; daughter, Carol Manning and husband Harold of Lillington; son, Jimmy Giles and wife Vickie of Fuquay-Varina; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Mildred Bridges McNeill, 86, who died Saturday (8/3/13), was held Monday at Pocket Presbyterian Church by Rev. David Dudley. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

During the service the congregation sang, special music was by Dennis and Karen Jordan, and musician was Tina Rickard.

Pallbearers were Arthur Ray Allen, Joel Cameron, Roger Ferguson, Rodney Gaines, Mark Newman, Larry “Doc” Oldham and Gilbert Rosser.

REV. WI LLIAM FREDERICK HEPPDING

SANFORD — Rev. William Frederick “Fred” Heppding, 71, died Monday (8/5/13) at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.

He was born in Sumter, S.C., on March 9, 1942 to the late William Heppding and Jessie Lois Coker Heppding. He was a graduate of Piedmont Baptist College in Winston-Salem, and served as pastor for the former Northview Baptist Church for 37 years. He also served in the U.S. Air Force during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

He is survived by his wife, Gayle Routledge Heppding; three sons, William Frederick Heppding Jr. and wife Heather of Lynchburg, Va., Christian Arnold Heppding and wife Ally of Randleman and Philip Nolan Heppding and wife Ann of Destin, Fla.; two sisters, Ramona Young and husband Hank of Georgetown, S.C., and Judy Walters of Charleston, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home and the funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the former Northview Baptist Church (now Faith Bible Church) on Amos Bridges Road with Pastor Christian A. Heppding officiating. Burial will follow at Buffalo Cemetery with military honors.

BROADWAY — Funeral service for Geneva Harrington Cameron, 99, who died Wednesday (7/31/13), was conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the Broadway Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Richard Rodda, the Rev. Dr. Harold Stone and the Rev. Doug Houston officiating. Burial followed at the Broadway Town Cemetery.

During the service, Nancy McCurry was the organist and the congregation sang.

Pallbearers were Bob Stevens, Wilson Cox, Louis Thomas, Hugh Worrell, Alan Shaw and Jeff Thomas.
