MONCURE — William Thomas “Tommy” Stone, 66, died Tuesday (8/6/13) at the Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro.

He was born on Feb. 26, 1947, son of the late William Stone and Dolly Jordan Stone. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

He is survived by his wife, Willie Mae Poe Stone; daughters, Tracey Lynn McKinney (Chris) and Amber Renee Burris (Terry), both of Concord; brother, Steve Stone (Scarlett) of Sanford; and six grandchildren.

The family requests no flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Haywood Independent Bible Church, P.O. Box 409, Moncure, N.C. 27559 or to a charity of one’s choice.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Annis Ionia McDougald Pulley Gaines, 100, who died Saturday (8/3/13), was conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Union Grove United Methodist Church in Broadway with the Rev. Dr. James H. Henderson and the Rev. Chalmers McDougald officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

The Johnsonville AME Zion Male Chorus sang, and Mrs. Tyrese McAuley was soloist.

Pallbearers were grandsons.

Arrangements were by Knotts Funeral Home.



SANFORD — Johnnie Robert Newell, 73, of Goldston, died Wednesday (8/7/13).

Funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home Chapel.

He was born in Chatham County, son of the late John Joe Newell and Janie Bell Hicks Newell. He was preceded in death by brothers, Robert and Henry Macon Newell; and a sister, Littie Van Skiver.

He is survived by his wife, Emma Smith Newell; a daughter, Wanda Lou Newell of Goldston; sisters, Bobbie Jean Barham and husband Stanley, and Eva Hicks Newell, all of Cameron; brothers, James Newell and Bill Newell, both of Cameron.

The family will receive friends beginning at 6 p.m. Friday before the funeral.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Helen Matthews Cameron was held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Miller-Boles Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Craig Dobson officiating.

Three special songs were performed by Elaine Hathcock. Ralph Harrison was pianist. A eulogy was given by Carl Smith.

Following the funeral, a graveside service was held at Lee Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers were Anthony Buchanan, Alfred Buchanan, Trey Smith, Jarred Knight, Derrick Smith and Andrew Orellana.

SANFORD — Mrs. Inez Scott Morrison LeClerc Riddle, age 86, of the Deep River Community, died Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at her home with her family by her side.

She was born in Lee County on April 3, 1927 to the late Dan Mack Morrison and Nodie Lee Buchanan Morrison. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband Ed LeClerc; second husband George W. Riddle; children Leila Riddle, Derek Riddle, and Michael Riddle; granddaughter Anna Milliken; brother Mack Lee Morrison and sister Lib Morris. Inez never met a stranger and made friends wherever she went. She was an avid angel collector and had angels placed all over her home. She was a member of Flat Springs Baptist Church and sang in the church choir. Inez loved to garden and work in her yard and was an excellent cook and seamstress.

She is survived by one son, David Riddle of the home; three daughters, Sandra Sharpe and husband Tony of Deep River, Sheree Smith and husband Bill of Asbury, Noreen Riddle of Deep River; special niece, Linda Johnson of Sanford; five grandchildren, Lance Powers and wife Misty of Deep River, Joey Seagroves of Sanford, Reeanan Faircloth and husband Elvis of Broadway, Laura Milliken of Raleigh, Anthony Sharpe of Deep River; five great-grandchildren, Laci Seagroves, Gracie Powers, Ethan Powers, Kolton Powers and Caleb Faircloth; and Inez's special caregiver “angels,” Elizabeth Connor, Phyllis Boggs, Carla and Mark Denson, Amber Morrow, Mandi Jenkins and Sheila Patterson.

The family will receive friends Friday, August 9, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home and the funeral will be Saturday, August 10th at 2:00 p.m. at Flat Springs Baptist Church with Dr. Gary McCollough presiding. Burial will follow at Turners Chapel Church cemetery.
