SILER CITY — Creighton Tucker Nall, infant son of Randy and Laura Nall, died Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Alamance Regional Hospital, Burlington.

He is survived by parents Randy S. and Laura Gaines Nall, Jr. of Siler City, NC; maternal grandparents, Phil and Lisa Overacre Gaines, Jr. of Goldston, NC; paternal grandfather, Randy S. Nall, Sr. of Sanford, NC; paternal grandmother, Debra and Joseph Kernstine of Bear Creek, NC; maternal great-grandparents, Phil and JoAnn Gaines, Sr. of Siler City, NC; maternal great-grandmother, Martha Helton of Siler City, NC; paternal great-grandmother, Elizabeth Nall of Sanford, NC; paternal great-grandmother, Catherine Wright of Siler City, NC; uncles and aunts Chad and Ann Gaines, Holly Gaines, Philip Gaines and Magon York.

A graveside service will be held Monday, May 27, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Joy Baptist Church Cemetery, 61 Bower Store Road, Siler City with Rev. Rodney Staley officiating.

SANFORD — Marlene Miller, age 81, died Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Central Carolina Hospital.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church by Revs. Betty Sherrod and Wendell McGee. Burial will be at Buffalo Cemetery.

Mrs. Miller retired from Central Carolina Community College after many years of service. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was predeceased by her husband Johnny Miller.

She is survived by her children, Johnny Miller, Jr. and Carol Dalton of Sanford, and Dana Hester of Greensboro, her grandchildren, Jason Gill, Matthew Gill, Lauren Gill, Jessica Hester, Peyton Hester and four great-grandchildren.

CAMERON —John Lowell Thomas, 76, of Cameron died Thursday (5/23/2013) at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.

A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Brown officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in Johnson Grove Cemetery.

Lowell was born in Cameron, N.C. on May 14, 1937, to Leo Cortis and Alma Crouse Thomas. He was retired from CSX Railroad.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Long Thomas; two children, Tabitha Ross and husband Tony of Carthage, Cort Thomas and wife Deborah of Cameron; one step child, Ricky Holt and wife Marilyn of Vass; three sisters, Dana Fry and husband Sam of South Carolina, Brenda Campbell and husband Howard of Cameron, Ann Youder and husband Jeff of South Carolina and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jim Ed Thomas.

LILLINGTON — Ellon Dennis Upchurch, 81, of Lillington, died Friday (5/24/2013) at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.

She was born in Harnett County, daughter of the late Armor Wain-Wright Dennis and Fannie O'Quinn Dennis. She was proceeded in death by her parents and several brothers and sisters.

She was retired from Sara Lee Yarn Manufacturing and was a lifetime member of the Antiochh Baptist Church in Mamers.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Antioch Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery.

Surviving are her daughter Rhonda Upchurch-Santana and husband Gerardo of Lillington; Phillip Upchurch of Lillington, Tonny Upchurch and wife Susan of Erwin; Sisters Jewel Damon and husband Don of Sanford and Anita Deszo of Lillington; Brothers Ralph Dennis and wife Hilda, Clyde Dennis and wife Henrietta and Jimmy Dennis and wife Betty, all of Lillilngton; 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway and other times at the home of Rhonda Upchurch-Santana.

ASHLAND, PENN. — The Rev. John Rex Thomas, 76, of Ashland died Thursday (5/23/2013) at Reading Health System-Reading Campus.

Born in Lee County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Elton T. Thomas and Ruth Bolin Thomas.

He was a 1959 graduate of Elon University and graduated from Lancaster Theological Seminary with a Bachelor and Master of Divinity.  He served in the US Army 1959-1962.

Thomas served churches in North Carolina and Pennsylvania before becoming Pastor of Zion's Reformed UCC in June 1970.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John Michael, in 1981.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shelby, two sisters, Kay wife of John Papa, Montvale, New Jersey, Joy, wife of Jerry Garner, Carthage, brother-in-law, Bob and wife Barbara Gunter of, Lakeland, Florida, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2013, at Zion's Reformed UCC, Ashland, Penn. with the Rev. David Grant officiating.  Interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Penn.  Visitation is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. until the service Friday in Zion's reformed UCC.

SANFORD — Funeral for Hazel Pittman Cashion Medlin,  86,  of Sanford, who died Wednesday (5/22/2013) was held at 3 p.m. Friday at East Sanford Baptist Church with the Rev. Robbie Gibson and the Rev. Steve Ray officiating.  Burial followed at Pineywood Baptist Church Cemetery in Cameron.

Pianist were Suzanne Bowen and Kimberly Davidson.  Soloist was William Ellis.

Pallbearers were Eric Cashion, Bobby Wicker, Pat Blakeley, Jack Pittman, Clint Key and Rafe Davidson.
