VERNON JAMES BLYSTONE

SANFORD — Mr. Vernon James Blystone, age 57, of Sanford, NC, died Sunday, February 2, 2014.

He was born in Portage, Wisconsin on March 4, 1956 to Arthur Vern Blystone and Sue Neil Justice Blystone of Sanford. Vernon was a self-employed long-haul, cross-country truck driver and jack-of-all trades. He also once worked for the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant and other nuclear power plants in the United States. He was owner and operator of American Eagle Remodeling Company and a member of Sons of Confederate Veterans.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a daughter, Amber Danielle Casper of Sanford; stepson, Jeremy Casper of Janesville, Wisconsin; brothers, Timothy Blystone and Kenneth Blystone, both of Sanford; sisters, Barbara Cameron and husband Billy of Sanford, Judy Wilson and husband Earl of Lillington, Karen Gee and husband Billy of Portage, Wisconsin, Alice Payne and husband Ernest of Sanford; and grandson, Trenton Ashley. Vernon is also survived by nieces and nephews, Michael, Danielle, Christin, Josiah, Jodie, Shannon, Nicholas, Nathan, Joshua, Jacob, Levi, Codie, Makaila, Leslie, and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home with Rev. Jonathan Newton officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Barbara and Billy Cameron.

MAXINE BROWN VEST

WEST END — Maxine Brown Vest, age 82, died Sunday (February 2, 2014) at Peak Resource-Pinelake in Carthage.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday (today) at Fairview Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Donnie Gillis and the Rev. Brad Marona. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. and following the service there will be a reception in the church fellowship hall.

A native of Moore County, she was a daughter of the late Hugh Thomas and Ocia Cockman Brown. Maxine retired from Stanley Furniture in West End. She always enjoyed flower gardening, reading and a good cup of coffee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Vest; daughter, Dinah Cain and son, Don Vest.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda V. Caddell and husband Marshall of West End; sons, Terry Vest of West End, Andy Vest and wife Diane of West End; sisters, Lois Priest of Carthage and Josephine Crabtree of Granger, IN; brothers, Argene Brown of Carthage, Monroe Brown of Carthage and Tracy Brown of Carthage; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

GOLDSTON — Eva Warner Luther, 93, of Bear Creek passed away Sunday, February 2, 2014 at Central Carolina Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cool Springs Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Luther was born in Moore County, a daughter of the late Will Warner and Della Fields Warner. She was a member of Cool Springs Baptist Church and preceded in death by her husband, James A. Luther, three brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Luther is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Elkins and husband Billy of Bear Creek; two sisters, Virginia Phillips of Glendon and Margaret Thomas of Carthage; three grandchildren, Amy Locklear and husband Marty, Doyle Elkins and wife Sheila, and James A. Elkins and wife Beth; ten great-grandchildren, Logan Fields, Ashton Fields, Seth Elkins, Calan Elkins, Madelyn Elkins, Abby Elkins, Sawyer Elkins, Ty Elkins, Patrick Locklear and Skylar Locklear; a special friend, Marylou Davis of Bear Creek.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home and other times at 6855 Pittsboro Goldston Road, Bear Creek.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Shirley Lee Murphy, 72, of Sanford, who died Thursday (1/30/14), was conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Joel Cameron officiating. Burial followed at Lee Memory Gardens.

Soloist Melaine Johnson sang two songs during the service and one at the graveside. Recorded music was played as a prelude and postlude as the family entered and left the chapel.

Pallbearers were Shane Coleman, Derik Cox, Benjy Denkins, Jeremy Denkins, Joshua Denkins and Dan Collier. Grandchildren served as honorary pallbearers.

IRENE BRADY COVERT

BENNETT — Irene Brady Covert, 70, of Bennett, died Saturday (2/1/14) at home.

She was born on June 12, 1943, in Chatham County to Ruby Brady and the late Harvey Brady. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother, Gary Dean Brady. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Christian Church.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her daughters, Sharon Freeman and Sherry Cook, both of Eagle Springs; sons, AJ Covert of Cameron and Brian Covert of Bennett; sister, Sylvia Brown; brothers, Harold Brady, Wayne Brady and Michael Brady; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Grove Christian Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Christian Church or Hospice of Randolph County.

SANFORD — Memorial service for Carole Lee Swiggard, 79, of Sanford, who died Wednesday (1/29/14), was conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Stephen Athens officiating.

Eulogy was given by daughter, Terri Rodriguez, and scripture and talk was by her son, Scott Swiggard. Prayer was by her son-in-law, Agustin Rodriguez.

Maisie Saulter was pianist, and granddaughters Lauren Swiggard and Nicole Swiggard sang.

LILLINGTON — Graveside service for Curtis Ray Parker, 60, who died Thursday (1/30/14), was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Antioch Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Patrick Broaddus and the Rev. Dan Deaton officiating.

Arrangements were by O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home and Crematory in Lillington.

SANFORD — Graveside service for Sylvia Jeane Brown, 53, of Sanford, who died Tuesday (1/28/14), was conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Broadway Town Cemetery with the Rev. Robbie Gibson officiating.

During the service, William Ellis was the soloist.

Pallbearers were Kevin Ballard, Charlie Spivey, Meadors Creador, Jay Hickman, Larry Haire and Orbie Ray Haire.

JERRY STEVEN HARRINGTON

BROADWAY — Jerry "Jo Jo" Steven Harrington, 65, of Broadway died Monday (2/3/14).

He was born March 23, 1948, a son of the late Reid and Katherine McLeod Harrington. He was the brother of the late Harry Ray Harrington. He was a carpenter and worked for David Dickens Construction for many years. He recently retired as a truck driver from GS Materials.

He is survived by his brother, Randall "Randy" Scott Harrington and wife Charlene of Broadway; sister-in-law, Theresa Harrington; several nieces; a nephew; one aunt and one uncle.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. Pisgah Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at the church cemetery.  The family will begin receiving friends at 10 a.m. Wednesday prior to the service, and at other times at the home of Theresa Harrington, 824 McFarland Road.
