LILLINGTON — John Joseph Gilbert Jr., 66, died Thursday (9/12/13) at his home.

A native of New Jersey, he was the son of the late John and Gertrude Gilbert. He was preceded in death by a sister, Gertrude Shinn, and brother, Skip Sailor. He retired as a drywall specialist in construction for over 30 years.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Peggy Gilbert; sons, Michael and wife Christina of  New Jersey, and Steven and wife Wendy of Pennsylvania; daughter, Linda Beuckman and husband William of Lillington; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

SANFORD — Memorial service for Sarah Carolyn Taggart was held Thursday at St. Luke United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Gene Cobb officiating.

Dianne Stanley was organist.

Following the service, the family gathered at Carolina Trace for a luncheon.

An inurnment will be held at a later date.

SANFORD — Betty Louise Marks, 89, of Carolina Meadows, Chapel Hill, died Tuesday (8/27/13).

She was the daughter of the late Hilary and Louise Womble Marks. She graduated from Chapel Hill High School and the University of North Carolina where she was a member of the tennis team. She was employed by the University of North Carolina.  She moved to Carolina Meadows, a retirement center in Chapel Hill, in 1990. She was a former member of Carrboro United Methodist Church and a longtime member of University United Methodist Church, Chapel Hill.

She is survived by three nephews, three great-nephews and one great-niece.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Carolina Meadows in Chapel Hill. A private family burial will follow the service that afternoon.
