LETTER: Taking exception to ‘Thumbs Down’
To the Editor:
I must take exception with one of your “Thumbs Down” editorials this Sunday. You called it hypocritical of the president to praise CVS for their removal of all tobacco products from their shelves [considering] the president’s stand on forcing corporations to include birth control in their insurance policies. There is no mandate for abortion coverage. That is a separate rider paid for by the policy holder, if they so wish.
Comparing these two stands is like comparing apples and oranges. CVS has decided to stop selling a carcinogen. On the other hand, the contraceptive issue is a matter of the owner of a large corporation forcing his religious views on his employees. That’s saying that the employer could force every employee to convert to his religion if they want to keep the job. I can’t believe anyone would agree to that.
