LETTER: What will be bill’s fate?
To the Editor:
Americans have learned about a deliberate cover-up to keep our sick military veterans from signing up to get health care in numerous VA centers. The U.S. House passed a three-page bill with rare bipartisan support of 390-33 to correct this diabolical scheme.
This bill has been sent to the U.S. Senate, where the majority leader, Democrat Harry Reid, will be totally responsible to bring this to the Senate floor; “... where it is likely to die” (quote from Roll Call Report, May 25, 2014, Fayetteville Observer, N.C.).
Why is this bill likely to die? Possibly because Sen. Reid will continue to play the obstructionist role in tabling the bill as he has during the last six years? And the unconscionable part is that the Democrats in the Senate have not yet objected to his behavior. The question now is will Democrat Sen. Kay Hagan push Harry Reid to move this bill forward before the entire Senate? After all, she is up for re-election, and North Carolina has eight military bases.
