LETTER: What would Jesus think?
To the Editor:
If Jesus was walking on earth a week before Christmas, what would he think? What would he think about Brown Thursday, Black Friday and Cyber Monday?
What would he think about all of the money that we waste simply trying to upstage our neighbors or trying to fit in amongst the haves versus the have nots, or shall I say the rich versus the poor? The Bible tells us in Matthew 6:19 not to lay up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust do corrupt and where thieves break through and steal. It also tells us in Matthew 25:42-43 — "I was hungered and you gave me no meat, thirsty and you gave me no drink. I was a stranger and you took me not in, naked and you clothed me not, sick and in prison and you visited me not." Now, let me close by asking who has done any of these things, or simply put the power and spirit of Christ back in Christmas?
You see, it is difficult not to get caught up in materialism, but be sure to take a moment this year to look around, taking inventory of your countless blessings and ask yourself, "What can I give away from exactly what I have?" That will give new meaning to the words [when] I wish a real Merry, Merry Christmas to they who are in need.
