LETTER: Teacher remains an inspiration

Feb. 11, 2014 @ 05:00 AM

To the Editor:

I am writing about a teacher who was my mentor when I was a student at Sanford High School. She inspired me when I was so young. The things she shared with her students and the way she lived each day inspired so many. Even today, she is an inspiration. I still enjoy calling to see how she is doing, hearing about her planned activities of the day, books she has read, gardening and just life with the ever-changing events as we see them unfold. How very lucky I was to have her as a teacher and now as a friend.

I hope students today will have a teacher who will inspire them as she has me. May all have someone come into your life to help you fulfill all of your dreams. My teacher did, as I became a teacher myself, a coach and Dean of a college. My hope is that I have passed on to my students what this great lady taught me and still is! Thank you, Virginia Hester, and Happy 96th Birthday!
