LETTER: Israel will prevail
To the Editor:
I appreciated Katherine McDonald’s article “Holocaust survivor recounts horror” in Saturday’s Herald. I commend Bianka Stumpf for providing Rebecca Hauser an opportunity to share her story.
Holocaust Remembrance Day was April 28. Israel’s Independence Day is celebrated on May 14 when in 1948, after atrocities of the Holocaust, Israel was miraculously re-established to statehood. God loves Israel, his promised land, and its capital Jerusalem — “the city of the Great King.” Ezekiel’s prophecy over the dry bones of Israel will culminate: Thus says the Lord God, “I will bring you into the land of Israel. And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves, and raise you from your graves, O my people. And I will put my Spirit within you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I am the Lord; I have spoken, and I will do it, declares the Lord” — Ezekiel 37:12-14.
“Israel” is found 2,566 times in the KJV Bible, recording God’s former and future blessings to this little nation. Smaller than the state of New Jersey, Israel is surrounded by giant enemies who still deny their statehood, but God will fight for them just as he did with David against Goliath. Israel means “God prevails,” and it will. God’s word says so.
Americans must remember it is vital for us to continue our whole-hearted support of Israel. “Pray for the peace [Shalom] of Jerusalem! May they be secure who love you!” — Psalm 122:6.
Christians, the gospel of Christ is “the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first … .” Most Jewish people have no idea that Jesus was Jewish and that he fulfilled dozens of Messianic prophecies. The New Testament connects them to Yeshua (Jesus), their messiah and savior; the books of Matthew, Acts, Hebrews and Romans 9-11 are especially enlightening to Jewish hearts.
Jews can find comfort in knowing that the love God has for Israel will never cease, as the prophet Jeremiah records: “Thus says the Lord, Who gives the sun for light by day and the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night, Who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar; ‘If this fixed order departs from before Me, then the offspring of Israel also will cease from being a nation before Me forever.’” — Jeremiah 31:35-36.
