LETTER: Missing those ‘good ole’ days’
To the Editor:
Ever long for the “good ole’ days?” I’m sure “good” is based on perspective. No one will argue with me when I say Ed Paschal was a [good person]. I’ve enjoyed reading the accolades he so richly deserved.
Most recent of those was today’s (April 8) letter from Lloyd Jennings. Mr. Jennings cited many conversations with Ed. They were good friends. They also were often on opposite sides of current issues. But that didn’t stop the camaraderie and sharing. That is the “good ole days!” I mourn their demise. All politicians should be friends first regardless of party affiliation; they serve the same people.
But maybe like me, my friend, Lloyd, angled for one of Ed’s great peach cobblers! (I can taste it now!)
A synonym for “politics” is “compromise” — it’s not a dirty word. It just takes sitting down and talking friend to friend. That requires listening. Really listening! And you can’t do that with lawsuit — or behaving in ways that could produce a lawsuit!
O Lord, bring back those “good ole’ days!” Even so, come Lord Jesus!
