LETTER: Sanford should be proud of golf course

Nov. 01, 2013 @ 04:59 AM

To the Editor:

I am writing this brief note to you in support of the Sanford Municipal Golf Course, as there seems to be some issues with it remaining in the control of the municipality or changing to private ownership.

My wife and I are retired and have been playing golf at the Sanford Municipal Golf Course for seven years now on a weekly basis. Not only is it required exercise as recommended by our doctor, but it offers recreation to us senior folks.

Besides playing ourselves, our grandson started taking lessons from Brandon Honeycutt at the course six years ago and is playing regularly with many of his friends and family members.

David Von Canon and Brandon Honeycutt are not only outstanding professionals, but more importantly, they are serving our residents and public with respect and enthusiasm. The course speaks for itself in its condition and fairness in play. Sanford should be extremely proud and [encouraging of] this recreational facility instead of wanting to eliminate its present status.

Not only do we pay to play golf in this community, but we fill up our gas tanks in Sanford, go out to eat after play in local restaurants (Applebee's, Ruby Tuesday), and shop in local supermarkets and stores.

Please keep our local golf course active and functioning in its present capacity so we can continue to enjoy this Sanford experience.
