LETTER: Public being misled on fracking

Apr. 04, 2014 @ 04:59 AM

To the Editor:

Thank you for posting more fracking articles, but the recent article about forced pooling is so misleading.

These land men giving such false hope of property owners receiving millions in commissions is outright lies. Did you know N.C. DENR already has 25-plus land men registered to prey upon unknowing land owners? Maybe an article interviewing some of these men from Texas would be interesting. How do they base their priority land leases without seismic tests? Or will it be a free-for-all?

How about this article?

“State and federal regulations, for instance, do not require operators to use equipment that would capture all emissions during drilling. Often, gases are vented or flared into the air. The regulations also don’t consider activities, like diesel truck traffic, that degrade air quality at the fracking site.” As of right now, N.C. MEC is writing very similar laws that do not require emissions capture.
