Another intersection needs to be studied
To the Editor:
As a parent of children who attend Tramway Elementary, I have been following the "superstreet" proposal for the intersection of Highway 1 and Tramway Road very closely. I am happy to see a proactive approach given to one of the busiest intersections in the county. However, the importance of change must focus on the safety of the community. It should not merely be to construct an improved conduit for traffic in and out of the alleged Marketplace at Tramway (which no one seems to know anything about).
If public safety is indeed paramount to the commissioners and other "business leaders," the intersection of Carthage Street and Highway 1 needs to be studied as well. Traveling south on Carthage and attempting to turn left (south) on to Highway 1 is impossible at many times of the day. Because the southbound traffic on Highway 1 is already going 40-50 mph, it can also be instantly deadly. However, because there is no prime real estate at this intersection, I assume it will continue to be just an outdated and unimproved horse path. And that's a shame. And that's dangerous.
