LETTER: Making sense of Iraq situation
To the Editor:
There are many conservative politicians screaming we should return to Iraq in force, that we should never have left and that the current situation in Iraq is a of our removal of all combat forces. They also make the absurd claim that it was the correct decision to invade Iraq in 2003. These people have selective memories.
The current situation is a direct result of our 2003 invasion and the overthrow of the dictator Saddam Hussein. The Maliki government is Shi'ite and an Iranian ally. Saddam Hussein's Iraq was Sunni and an enemy of Iran. If we aid Maliki, we are helping Iran.
