LETTER: Obama doesn’t need news agencies’ protection

Feb. 01, 2013 @ 04:58 AM

To the Editor:

We have been privy to a history-making event in the last several years. We have seen the first African-American elected and re-elected to the presidency of the United States of America. We should be proud as a nation of progressive individuals and peoples united against the power of racism. He is obviously a strong, capable person. I, for one, am tired of the news giving people the idea that he is a weakling.

Suppose your child was going to school and the teacher decided to give him easy assignments because he was a minority; you would be screaming about the blatant racism of that teacher — or you should anyway. If the same teacher just ignored any bad conduct by the same child and let him or her just run around tearing up the classroom and terrorizing the other children just because he was a minority, I’m sure you would feel the same way. Of course, you would be extremely offended by the implication of the teacher that your child was somehow not as smart or equal to the other kids.

I certainly do not agree with favoritism in any shape or form. I don’t believe that minority children need any special passes or consideration when it comes to school work or any other facet of life. I believe that minority children are born with the same amount of intelligence as any children and if taught the same will become just as intelligent as any person on the earth.

Why, then, do the network news agencies believe that President Obama needs their protection? To me, it is indicative of a person that lacks confidence in someone. They make it look like the president can’t take up for himself and needs the “reporters” to coddle and pander to him like he is a complete idiot. I believe that the president should tell them to take the gloves off and treat him like the capable man that he is, not the little baby that they need to swaddle and protect. If he is indeed the man that I think he is, then he will stop harassing Fox News and make his lackeys at the networks on the air act like adults themselves and not helicopter parents. Please stop giving the rest of the world the idea our president is a helpless dolt and couldn’t survive without cheating.
