Does new law help Big Money?
To the Editor:
Merriam-Webster defines reform as “to change into an improved form or condition.” No reasonable person can believe this [Voter Reform Act] law makes it easy for the electorate to vote. Apparently, the objective was to make it easier for Big Money to try to buy elections in North Carolina.
The campaign finance changes include ads and mailings by outside groups or parties, who will no longer have to list their five largest donors over the past six months. Groups will be allowed to spend unlimited amounts of money during the summer months prior to an election without disclosing the source or amount. Sound like the “reform” was for Art Pope and the Koch brothers?
