LETTER: Confusion about Route 87, bypass should be cleared up
To the Editor:
I hate to continue beating a dead horse, but I feel that one of the worst deficiencies of the bypass is that Route 87, over what we called “The Mystery Bridge” while it was being built, is identified as an exit. This is not an exit! It is the continuation of 87. The bypass is the exit.
I realize that the powers that be don’t want to name the bypass as such until it is completed, but couldn't they have identified the exit as the “Future Route 421 Bypass” as the feds have done with the mythical Interstate 73 and the so-called “future Interstate 74 corridor on Route 52? I have seen too many people suddenly veer into the right-hand lanes when they realize that they are supposed to “exit” when they want to continue on 87 North.
