LETTER: What money can’t buy
To the Editor:
My heart bled when I read Kathleen’s Parker’s recent column about the Koch brothers — not for Charles and David, but for all of the rest of us, Democrats and Republicans alike, who are their victims.
The Koch brothers bandy the word “freedom” around a lot. What they really mean is license to profit at the expense of anyone who stands in their way. They believe in drastically lower personal and corporate taxes, minimal social services to the needy and much less oversight of industry, especially environmental regulation.
It would be nice if people like the Koch brothers and the high rollers who fund similar efforts to influence policy and control the power brokers would turn their attention to real problems and put some of that money to work eradicating hunger or investing in our educational system. In the meantime, lots of us are rolling up our sleeves to get the voters out and demonstrate to the Kochs and their ilk what money can’t buy.
