LETTER: The curse of ignorance

Feb. 26, 2013 @ 05:00 AM

To the Editor:

I am writing this letter in reference to the plague of violence that seems to be impacting our nation, including Sanford. It is time for us to understand that if we don't break the curse, it will only get worse. I am speaking about the contagious curse of ignorance that so many young people have to stop catching of their own free will.

It is not a gold badge of honor to destroy your character record by killing, stealing, destroying and going to prison with pride. If we look around, we can still do something, and that is take a first step forward and not backward. We must continue praying, encouraging and speaking something positive to our youth without judging them.

It is time for a global nudge in the right direction, which will require us not to surrender to this monster of failure called self-destruction. Now the final question that must be asked as we refuse to progress into darkness is: what can you do? We must not give up as I close this letter, wondering are we really committed to walk what we talk in 2013?
