LETTER: Plenty of politics behind lawsuit

Apr. 26, 2014 @ 04:59 AM

To the Editor:

After reading Wednesday’s article, “Move to dismiss suit is denied,” I realized what a mockery of N.C.’s Court system this lawsuit and its players are creating.

But when did that ever matter to the left? Does Mr. [Kevin] Foushee truly believe we’re so dumb we think there’s nothing political about this lawsuit? Would you like oceanfront property in Arizona? Get real.

There is vital information missing from this article that the taxpayers who will foot the bill should be aware of. Maybe The Herald’s printing press broke down before it could be added. Who knows?

But no wonder Judge Winston Gilchrist wouldn’t dismiss. Would you cross your campaign donors? Mr. Foushee and several members of the law firm representing Mr. Calendine gave money to Judge Gilchrist’s campaign according to his Campaign Finance reports at the State BOE website. In just one report I read, the 2010 Third Quarter Disclosure report, the following donors are listed — Jonathan Silverman, $250; Norman C. Post, $500; Kevin Foushee, $200.

What do they have in common? Well, they belong to Doster, Post, Silverman, Foushee & Post, P.A., the same firm that represented the plaintiffs in the lawsuit filed against CCCC and the state (which means, you the taxpayers). Our tax dollars are a gravy train to these guys. This is just one campaign finance report. ...

But please don’t take my word. Look it up yourself. This is all public information at: http://app.ncsbe.gov/webapps/cf_rpt_search_org/cf_report_doc_results.aspx?ID=STA-0NNH9C-C-001&OGID=17589:

Just speculating here, but something just doesn’t appear kosher when one’s legal representative(s) give to the judge that denies dismissal. However, I’m not speculating when I state this lawsuit is a blatant misuse of taxpayer dollars by Democrats in this county. Especially when they claim to be for the little guy but do everything in their power to rip the dollars from the very ones they supposedly represent.

Nothing political? Right!
