THUMBS UP: Sanford Brush and Palette Club

Local citizens have come to know the Sanford Brush and Palette Club for the fine work on display at its annual art show. Carolina is blessed with outstanding artists. It has been announced that the club will be recognized as a “Friend of the Arts,” as designated by the N.C. Art Education Association. According to an announcement on the recognition, it was noted that the club provides guest speakers to visit classrooms and perform art demonstrations for students. In addition, art materials are donated by the “Art Angels for Budding Artists,” an outreach program of the club. Congratulations to the Sanford Brush and Palette Club on this recognition — and thanks to its members for helping to make sure that the love of art is passed down to new generations.

Central Carolina Hospital and Wake Med Health and Hospital have begun a joint effort to provide expanding and improving local pediatric care. Hospitalists with the specialty of pediatric care will be available at CCH.

Dr. Mark Piehl, director of WakeMed’s Children’s Hospital, noted “Our partnership helps ensure local families will not have to travel far to receive the best care possible, anytime they need it.”

WakeMed has hired three doctors — Dr. Ann Scott Pate, Dr. Steven Pattishall and Dr. Jennifer Vick — who will spend most of their time at CCH.

“WakeMed is honored to be working alongside the Central Carolina Hospital team to care for infants and children from Lee County and the surrounding area,” said Piehl. This partnership is welcome news for our community.

THUMBS UP: Election experience

This Tuesday, Sanford residents will be voting in the primary election. They’ll decide on four bond matters — and, since there are no Republican candidates for mayor, the winner of the Democratic primary between incumbent Cornelia Olive and challenger Chet Mann will be Sanford’s mayor. There are several other city council primary elections on the ballot.

The right to vote for our elected leaders is among the greatest of the American privileges. This is the opportunity where each Sanfordian can let their voice be heard through their vote. This is a privilege to cherish.
