LETTER: Supporting the pro-life party

Mar. 12, 2013 @ 05:00 AM

To the Editor:

I am a Catholic Christian. I am a conservative Republican. I am also a volunteer for the Lee County Republican Party. Why? I believe that all of these things go together. The Republican Party is pro-life. As a Catholic, I am pro-life.

Let's start at the beginning. Yes, women are special. We can carry the life of a child within us for the first nine months of that child's life. With that gift comes a responsibility. How dare we say, “It is my body and I can do with it as I wish.” Just because a law says that it is legal to abort an unborn child does not mean that it is right.

The Democratic Party would like you to believe that they are the party of the people. They intimate that they want to help people by having numerous programs for people, but let us start with the basics. If the Democratic Party cares for people so much, then why is it that they support killing the most defenseless human beings, the unborn babies? Where is their pro-life platform? At the time I write this letter, 56,000,531 (that's 56 million-plus) American babies have been killed by abortion since it has become legal in the United States.

I speak with many people who do not wish to become involved in politics. I say it is our duty to be involved. Our fundamental rights in this country are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, the most basic rights, correct? If we believe in abortion (if we are pro-choice/pro-abortion), we are against that first right to live. Really? If we are not allowed to live, how then can we be free (liberty) and how can we pursue happiness? When we allow our most defenseless to be killed, are our older citizens next?

I am sick and tired of political correctness. Step up. Let others know your values. If you think the way that I do, let people know that. If I did not speak up, who would? If you do not speak up, who will?
