LETTER: Veteran dismayed by damage at memorial
To the Editor:
I went down to the Broadway Veterans Memorial — beautiful place. I looked at some names. It is well kept, I thought. On the slate with marble, you may if you are a local veteran, have your name engraved on a 6 inches by 12 inches, or 12 inches by 12 inches. Some are deceased. I went over to my plaque and it was broken, ruined. Now someone did this, or it was an accident.
I now have a bad feeling toward Broadway because this was personal property belonging to me. My children paid $1,000 to put it there. I was told by [Mayor] Don Andrews that no money is available to fix it. I’ll fix it and move it elsewhere. Veterans should be careful about investing in Broadway Veterans Memorial. I will confidentially pay a cash reward to know who did this damage, young or old.
