Area scores: Lady Crusaders brave cold for opening victory

Grace Christian 3, Kerr-Vance Academy 2
The Lady Crusaders started their season with a one-goal win on the road Thursday afternoon. Torie Boyte, Madison Bolen and Charity Taylor scored a goal apiece for the Lady Crusaders.
Grace Christian (1-0) was scheduled to play Greenfield yesterday in day one of a tournament at Community Christian; the Lady Crusaders are slated to play Statesville Christian in the tournament at 1 p.m. today.

Panther Creek 6, Northwood 2
The Lady Catamounts pulled away winning the second half 5-1 for a victory in Pittsboro Thursday night. Northwood (1-1) will host Jordan-Matthews at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

O'Neal 1, Grace Christian of Raleigh 1
O'Neal (0-0-1) drew with the visiting Lady Eagles on Thursday afternoon. The Lady Falcons were scheduled to host Asheville Christian yesterday.

Eastern Randolph 5, Chatham Central 0
Eastern Randolph got an opening day win at Chatham Central in a game shortened to five innings Thursday in Bear Creek. Eastern Randolph held the Bears to one hit.
Senior Chase Fuquay started and pitched three innings for the Bears, followed by senior Zack Burke pitching two innings.
Chatham Central will host Providence Grove at 5 p.m. Monday.

Grace Christian of Raleigh 4, O'Neal 0
The visitors got out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and prevailed at O'Neal Thursday afternoon. O'Neal (0-2) is off until March 27 and a home date with Trinity School.
