Lady Crusaders claim fifth straight win
Grace Christian 72, Burlington Christian 47
With a 21-9 second quarter advantage, the host Lady Crusaders took a 43-23 halftime lead and rolled to an easy win at home Thursday night. It's Grace's fifth straight win.
Anna Murr scored 24 points with Brooke Strickland scoring 22 and Alexis Ross scoring 12. The Lady Crusaders hit nine three-pointers on the night.
Grace Christian (8-2, 1-0) played Lee Christian last night.
Fayetteville Academy 35, O'Neal 17
O'Neal lost its Cape Fear Independent Conference opener Thursday night against the Lady Eagles.
The Lady Falcons (0-6, 0-1) hosted Coastal Christian of Wilmington last night and will play at Lee Christian on Tuesday night.
Fayetteville Academy 53, O'Neal 50
Fayetteville Academy edged the Falcons in the Cape Fear Independent Conference opener for both schools Thursday night in Southern Pines.
Zane Waterman poured in 33 points for Fayetteville Academy.
Jacob Talbert led O'Neal with 25 points and seven rebounds. The Falcons had chances to tie or take the lead three times in the final minute. Jack Johnston scored eight points and Theo Johnson scored seven points.
O'Neal (2-4, 0-1) played Coastal Christian last night.
Burlington Christian 73, Grace Christian 59
Burlington Christian won at Grace Christian behind Andrew Carden's 19 points and 13 rebounds Thursday night.
Grace (6-4, 1-0) held a 31-27 halftime lead but couldn't hold on after Mark Riches sprained his ankle late in the third quarter. Riches leads the entire area in scoring at 42 points per game.
"Burlington was much more athletic and aggressive than we were tonight," said Grace Christian head coach Tim Murr. "We will have to step up without Mark if we are going to continue to be successful going forward. Hopefully he will be able to play again soon."
B.J. Harrison led the Crusaders with 21 points on 7-for-11 three-point shooting. Fernando DePaz had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
