Lady Jets take 1-0 lead in state semis
Jordan-Matthews sophomore Holly Clark fired a complete game and helped her own cause quite a bit as the Lady Jets (22-4) won their first-ever state semifinal softball game 4-2 at Northeastern (18-3) Tuesday evening.
Jordan-Matthews has a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three NCHSAA 2A semifinal series. The Lady Jets host game two at 6 p.m. this evening. If necessary, the decisive game three will be back in Elizabeth City at 6 p.m. Friday.
Clark keyed the Lady Jets taking the lead in the opening frame. Her RBI double scored Madison Poe and an unearned run gave the Lady Jets a 2-0 lead.
Northeastern loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the second but Clark and the Lady Jets held. The home side got on the board, cutting the Jordan-Matthews lead to 2-1 in the fourth.
Clark, with an RBI single, drove in Poe again in the Jet sixth. Northeastern cut the margin to one in the bottom of the sixth.
Hannah Stackhouse's RBI single gave the Lady Jets a 4-2 lead in the seventh.
Clark finished with 11 strikeouts.
The Lady Jets have a 12-game winning streak and have won 18 of their last 19 games going into this evening's game two with Northeastern.
