Area scores: Lady Vikings cruise by Westover, go to 7-0 in league

Union Pines 79, Westover 51
The Lady Vikings (15-2, 7-0) stayed perfect in the Cape Fear Valley Conference and won their seventh straight game overall at home Friday night over the Lady Wolverines (7-11, 4-3).
Freshman guard Nyona Shields led Union Pines with 16 points and eight assists. Sophomores Samantha Ring, with 14 points, Stephanie Johnson, with 13, and Maresa Smith, with 13, also paced the Lady Viking offense. Johnson had seven boards while Johnson and Smith got four steals each.
Union Pines will travel to face Terry Sanford (10-7, 4-2) at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The Lady Vikings prevailed 43-42 in overtime versus Terry Sanford on Dec. 13.

Gray's Creek 56, Lee County 45
Gray's Creek pulled away from a one-possession margin entering the fourth quarter, winning the period 21-13, for a CFVC win at home Friday night.
Taylor Williams led the Lady Bears (8-10, 4-3) with 14 points.
Senior Quitta Wilson led the Lady Yellow Jackets with 17 points, including three three-pointers. Shantel Bennett had eight points and four assists. Tashari Wells-Tucker had four points and 13 rebounds.
Lee County (5-12, 1-5) will host Douglas Byrd for a CFVC game at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Western Harnett 38, Triton 28
Western Harnett won the fourth quarter 19-8 to win a Two Rivers Conference game at county rival Triton Friday night.
The Lady Eagles (2-12, 2-2) will host Cleveland for a Two Rivers game at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Triton (5-11, 1-3) will play at Corinth Holders at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

South View 46, Overhills 34
South View (17-1, 6-1) got out to a 14-2 lead by the end of the first period and went on to a Mid-South Athletic win at Overhills (7-5, 1-5) Friday night.
Junior Chinyere Bell led South View with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Janna Aultman led the Lady Jaguars with 14 points, five steals and three assists and Jalla Aultman had five points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Overhills will play at Cape Fear at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Clayton 42, Harnett Central 33
The Lady Comets (12-5, 5-3) took a regular-season sweep over the Lady Trojans (7-9, 2-5) in Angier Friday night.
Taisha Murphy led Clayton with 17 points.
Lakiesha Lewis had nine points, five rebounds and two blocks for Harnett Central.
The Lady Trojans will play at Garner at 6 p.m. Monday.

Chapel Hill 76, Northwood 51
Chapel Hill (17-0, 8-0) pulled away after halftime for a Big Eight Conference win at Northwood (12-5, 3-4) Friday night.
Chapel Hill led 27-14 after one quarter. The Lady Chargers fought back within a 30-26 deficit by halftime.
Catherine Romaine led Chapel Hill with 18 points. Chapel Hill defeated Northwood 72-23 back in December.
Jazanae Billings led the Lady Chargers with 14 points and Kristian Eanes added 11 points.
Northwood will play a league game at Cardinal Gibbons at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Cummings 48, Jordan-Matthews 47
Jordan-Matthews led 39-35 going to the fourth quarter but a 9-2 Lady Cavalier run to end the game gave Cummings (7-6, 4-0) a Mid-State Conference win Friday night in Burlington.
Aundrea Walker led Cummings with 21 points, 20 rebounds and eight blocks.
Odyssey Dunn led the Lady Jets with 12 points.
Jordan-Matthews (5-11, 2-2) will play at Reidsville at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Richmond 65, Pinecrest 45
Richmond (9-4, 3-1) got 22 points by Shaquail Wall and cruised to a Southeastern Conference win at Pinecrest (4-10, 1-3) Friday evening.
Pinecrest will play an SEC game at Hoke County at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Northwood Temple 80, Cape Fear Christian 56
Marta Miscenko, Northwood Temple's 6-foot-4 center, piled up 34 points and 21 rebounds leading Northwood Temple (16-1, 9-0) to a Carolina Christian Conference win at Cape Fear Christian (7-5, 6-3) Friday evening.
Hannah Brannon led the Lady Eagles with 16 points and Kelly Ferrell scored 14 points.
Cape Fear Christian will host Lee Christian on Feb. 4.

Boys basketball
Grace Christian 79, Wake Christian 71 - OT
The Crusaders (11-10, 5-3 CCC), a 1A NCISAA program, edged 3A Wake Christian (8-8) in a non-conference game Friday night in Sanford. Grace Christian's won five of its last six games.
The Crusaders will face CCC and city rival Lee Christian for the first time this season at Lee Christian at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Westover 54, Union Pines 23
The Wolverines (12-6, 5-2) clamped down on the host Vikings (8-10, 2-5) in a Cape Fear Valley game Friday night.
Westover's Alphonzo Josey made four three-pointers and totaled 20 points. Westover led 24-11 at halftime.
Luke Davis led the Vikings with six points and five rebounds.
Union Pines will play a CFVC game at Terry Sanford at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Triton 53, Western Harnett 41
Triton pulled away after holding a 21-20 halftime edge to defeat visiting Western Harnett in a Two Rivers game Friday night.
D'Angelo Harris led the Hawks with 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Dequill Avery and Nick Parker added nine points each.
Chris Johnson led the Eagles (2-15, 2-2) with 12 points.
Triton (11-5, 3-1) will play another Two Rivers game at Corinth Holders at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday while Western Harnett will host Cleveland at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

South View 84, Overhills 69
Two Tiger shooters combined for 10 three-pointers and South View (10-8, 4-3) claimed a conference win at Overhills (8-7, 2-4) Friday night.
Isaiah Vinson made six three-pointers and scored 28 points while Xavier Robinson added four and 24 for the Tigers.
Dexter McCrae led the Jaguars with 17 points and Darnell Thompson scored 16 points.
The Jaguars will play a MSAC game at Cape Fear at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Clayton 74, Harnett Central 48
Clayton (15-3, 8-0) built a 41-20 lead by halftime and rolled to a Greater Neuse River win Friday night.
Gary Clark led the Comets with 19 points. Anthony Staton led the Trojans with 17 points.
The Trojans (5-11, 1-6) will play a conference game at Garner at 8 p.m. Monday.

Cummings 71, Jordan-Matthews 64
The Jets cut a 28-point Cummings lead during the third quarter down to five points with less than two minutes left, but that was as close as the Jet comeback got in a Mid-State game in Burlington Friday night.
Tevin Smith had 16 points and Quae Pinnix had 15 points for the Cavaliers (12-4, 4-0).
Jaleel Dunn scored 20 points for the Jets (7-9, 1-3).
Jordan-Matthews will play a conference game at Reidsville at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Pinecrest 65, Richmond 62 - OT
Pinecrest's Jaylin Dickerson made a tying lay-up at the buzzer to save the Patriots in regulation. The Patriots went on to win the overtime period 11-8 to give the visiting Raiders (11-5, 3-1) their first Southeastern loss of the season.
Kardashian Ragin led the Patriots with 17 points and Dickerson added 16 points.
The Patriots (5-10, 2-2) will play a conference game at Hoke County at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Northwood Temple 88, Cape Fear Christian 35
Northwood Temple rolled to a Carolina Christian Conference win in Erwin Friday night. Cape Fear Christian (2-11, 2-7) will host the Harnett Warriors at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday.

North Moore 63, East Montgomery 46
East Montgomery led 27-26 at halftime before the Mustangs (11-6, 8-0) pulled away in the second half to remain perfect in the Yadkin Valley Conference. North Moore led 48-39 through three quarters.
North Moore will host South Davidson for a YVC game at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Cape Fear Academy 44, O'Neal 41
Cape Fear Academy (10-7) edged the visiting Falcons (3-12, 0-5) in a Cape Fear Independent game Friday night in Wilmington. Evan Head led the victors with 23 points.
O'Neal will play a CFIC game at Village Christian at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
