Lady Crusaders get rolling for CCC win

Grace Christian 72, Cresset Christian 42

Lady Crusader senior Anna Murr scored a season-high 35 points and Karinda Farrant tallied her second triple-double of the season with 13 points, 11 steals and 10 assists as Grace Christian won a Carolina Christian Conference game at Cresset Christian Tuesday night.

Cresset led 16-12 after a quarter. The Lady Crusaders (12-2, 2-1) won the second quarter 26-6. Murr scored 13 points and Alexis Ross scored seven in the second.

"We came out a little sluggish in the first quarter but Anna finally looked like the Anna we saw last year and had a great night shooting," said Grace Christian head coach Joel Murr.

Anna Murr made 4 of 8 three-point shots on the night. Ross finished with 11 points.

The game was a rematch of last season's CCC Tournament final, which Grace Christian won, and drops Cresset Christian to 4-1 in the CCC.

"We have exams this week and have also had a little sickness to contend with. I thought we did a great job of playing hard even despite having these things going on around us," coach Murr said.

The busy week continues with Grace Christian playing a CCC game at Neuse Christian at 6 p.m. this evening and Grace Christian hosting Crossroads Christian at 6 p.m. Friday.

 

Jordan-Matthews 51, Graham 31

Jordan-Matthews opened its Mid-State Conference slate with a win in Siler City Tuesday night.

Madison Poe led the Lady Jets with 20 points. Odyssey Dunn scored 15 points and Alanna Pyrtle had seven points.

Jordan-Matthews (4-8, 1-0) has won three of its last four games. The Lady Jets will host Reidsville for a league game at 6 p.m. Friday.

West Montgomery 49, Chatham Central 47

Chatham Central led 29-20 at halftime at West Montgomery, but couldn't hold on in a Yadkin Valley Conference game Tuesday night.

The Lady Bears (5-6, 2-2) played at Providence Grove last night and will host South Davidson at 6 p.m. Friday.

Harnett Central 37, Rolesville 32

Harnett Central jumped out to a big lead then had to hold on for a Greater Neuse River win at first-year school Rolesville Tuesday night.

The Lady Trojans (6-7, 1-3) led 15-2 after a quarter. Rolesville cut the lead to 30-29 going to the fourth quarter.

Lakiesha Lewis had nine points, six rebounds and three steals for the Lady Trojans. Mariah McLean had five points while Tanisha Jones, Madison Turlington, Denise McNeill and Ashley West added four points each.

Harnett Central will play at East Wake at 6 p.m. Friday.

Seventy-First 79, Overhills 25

Seventy-First (9-4, 3-1) routed the visiting Lady Jaguars (7-2, 1-2) in a Mid-South Athletic Conference game Tuesday night. Overhills will host Pine Forest at 6 p.m. Friday.

 

Boys basketball

Cresset Christian 62, Grace Christian 43

Cresset Christian led 25-24 at halftime before pulling away from the Crusaders in a CCC game Tuesday night. Sophomore Bradley Pierce led Cresset with 28 points.

Zach Boggs led the Crusaders with 15 points and Braxton Deikopf added 12 points.

"We have had a hard time putting complete games together. The second half has hurt us in several games this year. I don’t think it is because we are not in shape but I just don’t know what it is. We have got to figure it out quick," said Grace Christian head coach Joel Murr.

The Crusaders play at Neuse Christian tonight at 7:30 p.m. and will play at home versus Crossroads Christian Friday night.

Community Christian 85, Lee Christian 50

The Cyclones (3-6, 2-2) got a Carolina Christian Conference win in Sanford Tuesday evening. The Falcons (0-7, 0-4) will host Cresset Christian at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

 

Graham 52, Jordan-Matthews 45

The Red Devils (7-5, 1-0) topped the Jets (6-6, 0-1) in the Mid-State Conference opener for both squads Tuesday night.

Jordan-Matthews got out to an 11-6 lead through one quarter. Graham won the second quarter 20-6 and led the rest of the way.

Trent Torain led the Red Devils with 15 points. Jaleel Dunn scored 13 points for the Jets and Jackson Rogers added eight points.

Jordan-Matthews will host Reidsville at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

 

West Montgomery 66, Chatham Central 60

Following a Chatham Central victory over the Warriors during the Montgomery County Classic two weeks ago, West Montgomery claimed a Yadkin Valley Conference win over the Bears (4-6, 2-2) Tuesday night.

West Montgomery led 31-30 at halftime.

Chatham Central played Providence Grove last night and will host South Davidson at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

J.F. Webb 57, Northwood 48

J.F. Webb prevailed at Northwood Tuesday night, dropping the Chargers (4-8 overall) to 0-3 in the Big Eight Conference. The Chargers host Orange in a league game at 7 p.m. tonight.

 

Seventy-First 65, Overhills 41

The Falcons (13-2, 4-0) remained perfect in the Mid-South Athletic Conference, getting out to a 22-2 lead by the end of a quarter and rolling past Overhills (7-5, 1-2) Tuesday night.

Dexter McCrae scored 13 points and Jeremiah Jenkins had 12 points to lead the Jaguars.

Overhills will host Pine Forest for a conference game at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Harnett Central 65, Rolesville 45

Harnett Central (5-8, 1-3) got its first Greater Neuse River win of the season at Rolesville (0-13, 0-4) Tuesday night.

Don Singletary led the Trojans with 11 points, five assists and four rebounds. Stanton Herman added nine points. The Trojans made 7 of 19 three-point shots.

Harnett Central plays at East Wake at 8 p.m. tonight.
