The Chargers won the team title at the 12-school Rocket Invitational at Person High School on Saturday and kept going with a Big Eight Conference win at home Wednesday night. The Chargers (13-3) will host the Charger Cup Tournament on Saturday starting at 9 a.m.

Asheboro edged the Bears (11-4, 4-0 Yadkin Valley) in Bear Creek Tuesday night. Chatham Central will have two YVC duals, versus Union Academy and North Moore, at North Moore on Wednesday night.

Boys basketball
Chatham Central 57, Providence Grove 54
Matt Clark's three-pointer put Chatham Central ahead 56-54 and the Bears held on for a non-conference win on the road Wednesday night.
Senior forward Zack Burke led the Bears (5-7, 2-2 Yadkin Valley) with 30 points, 10 rebounds and five steals. Burke made 10 of 13 field goal attempts. Michael Smith scored 11 points and three steals and Clark had 10 points and four boards for the Bears.
The Bears led 31-27 at halftime. The Patriots (4-10) moved ahead for a 44-39 lead with a quarter to play and held the lead until Clark's three-pointer. The Bears avenged a 74-68 Patriot victory earlier this season in Bear Creek.
Chatham Central hosts South Davidson for a Yadkin Valley game at 7:30 p.m.

Fayetteville Academy 42, O'Neal 25
The Eagles (10-5, 1-0) topped the visiting Falcons (3-8, 0-1) in the Cape Fear Independent Conference opener for both squads Wednesday night. O'Neal hosts Cape Fear Academy for a league game at 7 p.m. tonight.

Providence Grove 43, Chatham Central 37
The Lady Patriots completed a season sweep of Chatham Central Wednesday evening in Climax.
Hope Foxx led Providence Grove with 16 points. Ashley Hudson scored eight points and Gracie Brown added six points for the Lady Bears.
Chatham Central (5-7, 2-2 Yadkin Valley) hosts South Davidson for a YVC game at 6 p.m. this evening.
