Lee County 53, Holly Springs 48

The Yellow Jackets built a 29-17 lead by halftime and held on for back-to-back Tri-Nine Conference victories this week, edging visiting Holly Springs Friday night.

Senior forward Jason Payne led the Jackets with 19 points. Dewaun McEachin added 15 points and Dante Graham scored 11 points.

Holly Springs (7-8, 3-5) swept Lee County last season.

The Yellow Jackets (9-6, 6-2) played at Southern Lee last night and will host Apex in a league contest Friday at 7 p.m. Apex beat the Jackets 63-53 in Apex on Dec. 4.

Grace Christian 77, Crossroads Christian 52

The Crusaders (12-6, 4-2) rolled to an easy Carolina Christian Conference win in Henderson Friday night.

Grace Christian jumped out to a 27-10 lead through one period and made it 48-20 by halftime.

B.J. Harrison led the Crusaders with 26 points. Mark Riches had 20 points, Zach Boggs had 15 points and Robert Fulton had 10 points.

Grace Christian will host Fayetteville Christian in a non-league game Monday at 7:30 p.m.


Cresset Christian 66, Lee Christian 38

Lee Christian fell behind early and lost a CCC game on the road in Durham Friday,

Shawn Lipscomb led Cresset (7-7, 3-2) with 30 points. Cresset led 45-15 at halftime.

Kevin Kemp led the Falcons with 16 points and Braxton Diekhoff added eight points.

The Falcons (2-12, 1-4) will play at Trinity Academy Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Graham 69, Jordan-Matthews 57

The host Red Devils (11-4, 3-1) hit 10 three-pointers and forced 28 Jet turnovers for a key Mid-State Conference win Friday night.

Troy Bowden led Graham with 22 points, including three three-pointers. The Red Devils led 38-20 at halftime.

Center Derek Hamilton led Jordan-Matthews with 18 points. Antoine Williams scored 14 points.

The Jets (13-2, 2-2), who were 13-0 before last week's action, will host Reidsville Friday at 7:30 p.m.


Albemarle 59, Chatham Central 45

Senior Deon Christian led Albemarle (10-1, 6-1) with 18 points in a Yadkin Valley Conference win at Chatham Central Friday night.

The Bears (3-9, 2-5) will host North Moore in a YVC game Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

North Moore 87, Gray Stone Day 43

North Moore made it two YVC wins this week routing the Knights in Robbins Friday night.

The Mustangs (7-7, 4-3) will travel to Chatham Central Tuesday night, then to South Stanly Friday night.


South Granville 58, Northwood 43

South Granville (9-5, 4-2) pulled away down the stretch from the host Chargers (7-6, 4-2) for a Carolina 12 Conference win Friday night.

The Chargers opened the second half with a 10-0 run to get within a 29-28 South Granville lead late in the third quarter. South Granville scored the next six points and kept building its lead from there.

Aumad Walker led the Chargers with 15 points. Ti Pinnix added 11 points.

Northwood will host N.C. School of Science and Math for another Carolina 12 game Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Western Harnett 52, Union Pines 38

Western Harnett got its first conference win, led by Jonathan Buie's 18 points, over the visiting Vikings Friday night.

Elliott Terry scored 16 points and Rory Saliger Jr. had eight points for the Eagles. Jeff Thompson led Union Pines with 12 points.

Western Harnett (2-14, 1-4) will travel to face Westover Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The Vikings (4-13, 0-5) are off until a trip to Westover on Jan. 22.


Pinecrest 62, Lumberton 47

The host Patriots (10-4, 1-0) opened the Southeastern Conference slate by beating the Pirates (5-9, 0-1).

Senior wing Justin Ray led Pinecrest with 21 points. Adam Cummings scored 13 points and Brendan Ortiz scored 12 points. Pinecrest got out to a 14-4 lead through one quarter.

Montrae Strother led Lumberton with 15 points.

Pinecrest will host Scotland for an SEC game Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Overhills 70, Gray's Creek 64

The Jaguars (8-5, 3-1) beat the Bears (6-8, 2-2) in a Cape Fear Valley Conference game in Spring Lake Friday night.

Ali Thomas led Overhills with 19 points. Robert Johnson scored 17 points and Jared Foster scored 16 for the Jaguars.

Overhills will host Southern Lee (5-8, 3-1) Friday at 8 p.m.

Knightdale 77, Harnett Central 47

Knightdale (10-5, 4-2) routed the visiting Trojans (5-8, 1-4) in a Greater Neuse River game Friday night.

Kaelon Weldon led Knightdale with 19 points and seven boards.

Harnett Central will host Garner in a conference game Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Girls basketball

Graham 53, Jordan-Matthews 43

Graham (9-6, 4-0) ended the defending 2A state champs' 45-game winning streak in a Mid-State Conference game at Graham Friday night.

Graham led by 15 early in the second half before Jordan-Matthews cut the margin to four points. Graham answered with an 11-0 run to put the game out of reach. Kay Kay Wilson led the Lady Red Devils with 17 points.

Mylia Garner led the Lady Jets (14-1, 3-1) with 15 points. Taylor Paige added 13 points.

Jordan-Matthews will host Reidsville Friday at 6 p.m.

Holly Springs 104, Lee County 42

Holly Springs (14-2, 7-1) cruised on its home floor Friday night, getting out to a 61-9 halftime lead in the Tri-Nine game.

Linnea Hoops led Holly Springs with 23 points and Kiara Leslie scored 21 points.

Lee County (4-11, 0-8) played at Southern Lee last night and will go to Apex on Friday for a 7 p.m. tip.

Grace Christian 69, Crossroads Christian 39

Senior Brooke Strickland poured in 27 points leading Grace Christian in a Carolina Christian Conference win on the road at Henderson Friday night.

The Lady Crusaders (16-2, 6-0) have a 13-game winning streak and are ranked No. 2 in the state.

Anna Murr scored 18 points and Alexis Ross had 14 points for the Lady Crusaders. After a 17-17 score through one quarter, Grace Christian opened up a 35-26 halftime lead.

Jessi Hayes led Crossroads Christian with 25 points.

Grace Christian will host Fayetteville Christian Monday at 6 p.m.

Cresset Christian 47, Lee Christian 38

Lee Christian led 27-25 through three quarters on the road Friday night but Cresset Christian (6-4, 5-0) prevailed down the stretch to win the Carolina Christian Conference contest.

Lauren Lane led the Lady Falcons with 14 points and Haley Draughn scored 13 points.

Maggie Addison and Melissa Devlin scored 15 points each leading Cresset.

Lee Christian (6-7, 2-3) will play at Trinity Academy Tuesday at 6 p.m.


North Moore 67, Gray Stone Day 41

The Lady Mustangs (9-5, 4-3) topped visiting Gray Stone Day in a Yadkin Valley Conference game Friday night. North Moore will go to Chatham Central Tuesday for a 6 p.m. start.


Chatham Central 50, Albemarle 46

The Lady Bears (5-8, 4-3) edged visiting Albemarle (3-9, 2-5) in a YVC game Friday night. Chatham Central will host North Moore Tuesday at 6 p.m.


Northwood 71, South Granville 25

Northwood won the opening quarter 13-0 against visiting South Granville and kept going to a Carolina 12 win, staying unbeaten in league play, Friday in Pittsboro.

Shontai Totten and Eboni Watson led the Lady Chargers with 12 points each. Gabby Mehringer scored 10 points and Alexis Brower added nine points.

Northwood (10-3, 6-0) will host North Carolina School of Science and Math Tuesday at 6 p.m.


Union Pines 48, Western Harnett 41

Union Pines (7-9, 3-2) got a double-double, 19 points and 13 rebounds, from freshman Stephanie Johnson and won a Cape Fear Valley game in Lillington Friday night.

The Lady Vikings won the second period 13-6 to take a 22-12 lead at halftime. Lexie Coxe added 10 points for Union Pines.

Western Harnett (0-14, 0-5) will play at Westover Friday at 6 p.m. Union Pines is off until Jan. 22 and a meeting with Westover.


Lumberton 47, Pinecrest 42

Lumberton (10-3, 1-0) erased a 34-23 Lady Patriot lead headed to the fourth quarter and won in both sides' Southeastern Conference opener in Southern Pines Friday night.

Pinecrest (7-6, 0-1) will host Scotland in another SEC contest Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Overhills 68, Gray's Creek 52

Sophomore forward Ge'Naisha Robinson scored 20 points and senior Katelyn Clark scored 18 points, including making four three-pointers, as the Lady Jaguars (8-5, 4-0) beat visiting Gray's Creek (2-10, 1-3) in a Cape Fear Valley game.

Kylee Williams led Gray's Creek with 23 points, including five three-pointers. Janna Aultman added 12 points for Overhills. The Lady Jaguars got out to a 34-14 lead by halftime.

Overhills remains in a tie atop the CFVC with Southern Lee. Overhills will host the Lady Cavaliers (7-7, 4-0) Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Harnett Central 48, Knightdale 35

The Lady Trojans (11-2, 3-2) won a Greater Neuse River game on the road Friday night at Knightdale (4-11, 2-4).

Forward DeAnneisha Jackson led Harnett Central with 17 points. Maya Banks added nine points.

Harnett Central will host Garner in another GNRC game Friday at 6 p.m.
