Cavs keep conference baseball lead

Southern Lee 13, Douglas Byrd 0

Southern Lee (17-4, 9-1) completed a regular season sweep of Douglas Byrd in Fayetteville Tuesday night, keeping a one-game lead over Gray's Creek in the Cape Fear Valley race. Caleb Gaster got the victory on the mound for the Cavs.

The Cavaliers are slated to conclude their regular season hosting Gray's Creek on Tuesday night. Southern Lee hosts Jordan-Matthews tonight at 7 p.m.

Lee County 7, Panther Creek 3

Lee County scored four runs in the home half of the sixth to make the difference in a Tri-Nine victory over the Catamounts Tuesday night.

The Yellow Jackets (7-11, 4-7) led 3-0 early before Panther Creek (6-12, 5-8) made it 3-3.

Lee County played at Cary last night and will travel to face Green Hope Friday at 7 p.m.

Western Harnett 7, Union Pines 4

Western Harnett (6-11, 5-5) upset the host Vikings (13-6, 7-3) in a Cape Fear Valley game Tuesday night. The Eagles split the season series with UP after a 19-2 Viking win on March 22.

Western Harnett played Douglas Byrd last night and plays at Cleveland tonight at 6 p.m. Union Pines hosts Overhills tonight at 7 p.m.


Gray's Creek 11, Overhills 1

The Bears (14-4, 8-2) remained within striking distance of Southern Lee with a home win Tuesday night. Overhills (4-13, 3-6) plays at Union Pines tonight at 7 p.m.


Chatham Central 10, Albemarle 3

Chatham Central (11-8, 9-4) scored seven runs in the third to break open a 1-1 score and go on to a Yadkin Valley win at Albemarle (9-14, 5-9) Tuesday.

Zack Burke pitched a complete game with 14 strikeouts. Cole Garner went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored a run. Brandon Beal went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and two RBI.

The Bears host Gray Stone Day tonight at 7 p.m.


North Moore 2, Gray Stone Day 1

The Mustangs (10-10, 9-6) edged visiting Gray Stone Day Tuesday night in a YVC game. North Moore will host Chatham Central Friday at 7 p.m.


Northwood 12, Carrboro 0

The Chargers (15-4, 11-0) rolled to an easy win over the Jaguars (8-10, 4-6) in five innings in Pittsboro Tuesday night. Northwood played at Randleman last night and will host Durham School of the Arts Friday at 7 p.m.


Eastern Randolph 7, Jordan-Matthews 6

Despite a three-run homer by Casey Golden, Jordan-Matthews (13-6, 6-4) fell to Eastern Randolph (10-7, 8-3), giving the conference rival a regular season sweep, Tuesday night.

The Jets play at Southern Lee tonight at 7 p.m. and will host Graham Friday at 7 p.m.

Richmond 9, Pinecrest 4

The Raiders (19-1, 9-0) won their 19th straight game in a Southeastern contest at Pinecrest (13-8, 4-5) Tuesday night. The Patriots play at Hoke County in their regular season finale tonight at 7 p.m.

Harnett Central 1, East Wake 0

The Trojans (12-6, 6-4) scored in the second inning and that was enough for a Greater Neuse River win at East Wake (3-15, 1-7) Tuesday night. The Trojans held East Wake to two hits.

Harnett Central will host Smithfield-Selma Friday at 7 p.m.


Eastern Wayne 3, Triton 1

Eastern Wayne (9-10, 4-4) beat the visiting Hawks (14-7, 5-5) in an Eastern Carolina game Tuesday night. Triton travels to play South Johnston Friday at 6 p.m.


Softball

Chatham Central 11, Albemarle 0

Chatham Central's Kelsey Hayes fired a no-hitter and the Lady Bears (15-0, 13-0) remained undefeated in a Yadkin Valley victory Tuesday night. Destiny Oates scored two runs for the Lady Bears.

Chatham Central plays at Gray Stone Day today at 4:30 p.m.


Lee County 13, Panther Creek 7

The Lady Yellow Jackets rallied for nine runs in the third inning, taking a 10-4 lead, on their way to a Tri-Nine victory at Panther Creek Tuesday.

The Lady Jackets totaled seven doubles on the day. Savannah Patterson had two doubles and two RBI. Megan Santell, Chandler Patterson and Caroline Wilson added two RBI each. Morgan Pedley got the win in the circle.

Lee County (5-12, 3-9) will host Green Hope Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Douglas Byrd (9-7, 4-6) claimed a regular season sweep over the Lady Cavaliers (2-12, 1-7) in Fayetteville Tuesday night. Southern Lee played Union Pines last night and will play at Overhills Friday at 6 p.m.


Western Harnett 7, Union Pines 3

The Lady Eagles (11-4, 8-2) made the Cape Fear Valley title race tighter with a victory at Union Pines (12-3, 8-1) Tuesday night. The Lady Vikings still lead the Lady Eagles by a half-game atop the CFVC.

Western Harnett played Douglas Byrd last night and plays at Cleveland tonight at 7 p.m.

Union Pines played Southern Lee last night and hosts Overhills tonight at 7 p.m.


Gray's Creek 7, Overhills 0

Gray's Creek (13-6, 7-3) blanked the Lady Jaguars (4-12, 4-5) in a CFVC game Tuesday in Hope Mills.

Taylor Strickland pitched a three-hitter and got eight strikeouts. Michaela Fox had a homer and three RBI for the Lady Bears.

Overhills plays at Union Pines tonight at 7 p.m.


Jordan-Matthews 2, Eastern Randolph 1

The Lady Jets (10-5, 8-2) completed a regular season sweep over Eastern Randolph and ran their winning streak to six Tuesday night. Jordan-Matthews plays at Northwood today at 5 p.m.


Northwood 12, Carrboro 2

The Lady Chargers (11-3, 8-1) cruised to a Carolina 12 win at home Tuesday night. Northwood hosts county rival Jordan-Matthews today, then Durham School of the Arts Friday at 6 p.m.


Richmond 11, Pinecrest 0

Richmond (18-2, 9-0) got a Southeastern Conference win at Pinecrest Tuesday night. The Lady Patriots (6-8, 4-5) play at Hoke County tonight at 7 p.m.


East Wake 3, Harnett Central 2

East Wake (12-2, 7-2) edged visiting Harnett Central (7-8, 4-6) Tuesday night in a GNRC game. Harnett Central played Fuquay-Varina last night and will host Smithfield-Selma Friday at 7 p.m.


Triton 8, Eastern Wayne 0

The Lady Hawks (12-4, 8-2) rolled to an Eastern Carolina win on the road Tuesday night.

Julie Hodges pitched a complete game, giving up three hits and no walks while striking out seven. Kasey Matthews went 3-for-3 with three runs. Kaitlin Ennis and Emma Thomas had two RBI each.

Triton played at Cleveland last night and will play at South Johnston Friday at 6 p.m.


Girls soccer

Trinity Academy 1, Grace Christian 0

Trinity edged the visiting Lady Crusaders (8-7-2, 5-2-0) in a Carolina Christian Conference match Tuesday afternoon. Grace Christian plays at Greenfield School this evening at 6 p.m.

Chatham Central 3, South Davidson 0

Lupita Gomez scored two goals and Anna Dixon scored a goal as the Lady Bears (5-8-2, 5-7-1) got a Yadkin Valley win at South Davidson Tuesday.

The Lady Bears are 3-0-1 in their last four games. Chatham Central and South Davidson drew 3-3 on March 20.

The Lady Bears played at Albemarle last night and will go to North Moore Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Eastern Wayne 6, Triton 1

Eastern Wayne (8-3 ECC) rolled to a regular season sweep over Triton (7-9, 5-6) Tuesday night. Triton will play at South Johnston Friday at 6 p.m.

Boys lacrosse

Village Lacrosse Club 9, Pinecrest 8 - OT

Village gave the Patriots (6-1) their first loss of the season in overtime in Southern Pines Tuesday night. Pinecrest will play at Northwood Friday at 7 p.m.


East Chapel Hill 19, Northwood 1

East Chapel Hill (11-2, 8-0) rolled to a conference win at Northwood Tuesday evening. The Chargers (2-12, 1-8) will host Pinecrest Friday at 7 p.m.
