Cardinal Gibbons 62, Union Pines 56
The Crusaders (1-0) spoiled the home and season opener for the Vikings Tuesday night.
Junior Armani McCoy led Union Pines with 17 points including five three-pointers as the Vikings hit eight threes total on the night. Malik Crawford scored 14 points and Luke Davis had 12 points for the Vikings.
Moses Romachi led Cardinal Gibbons with 21 points.
Union Pines (0-1) will play at East Montgomery at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Triton 53, Overhills 40
Triton (1-1) won its home opener Tuesday night. Senior guard Nick Parker led the Hawks with 19 points, making 9 of 13 field goals, and eight rebounds.
Tyler Vaughan scored 12 points on 4-of-5 three-point shooting and Raynor Weaver added 11 points for the Hawks.
Overhills (0-1) will host Western Harnett at 8 p.m. Friday. Triton and Overhills will be in the Harnett County Tip-Off Tournament Monday-Wednesday at Campbell University.
The Jaguars won the JV game 51-47 in overtime.
Faith Christian 63, North Moore 58 - OT
North Moore (0-1) rallied with a 26-8 fourth quarter to force overtime. The visiting Eagles (1-1) won the overtime period 15-10 to spoil the Mustangs' opener Tuesday night.
North Moore will play at Pinecrest at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Kestrel Heights 72, Chatham Charter 36
Kestrel Heights rolled to a win as the guests for Chatham Charter's first-ever varsity basketball game Tuesday evening in Siler City. The Knights (0-1) played at Roxboro Community last night and will host Research Triangle at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
Cardinal Gibbons 53, Union Pines 45
Cardinal Gibbons (1-0) led 43-29 through three quarters and held on to win at Union Pines (0-1) Tuesday evening.
Morgan Reid led the Lady Crusaders with 19 points.
Freshman Nyona Shields led the Lady Vikings with 13 points and five assists. Sophomores Stephanie Johnson and Maresa Smith added 10 points and seven rebounds, and five points and eight rebounds, respectively.
The Lady Vikings will play at East Montgomery at 6 p.m. Friday.
The Lady Vikings won the JV game, 62-52, over Cardinal Gibbons.
Overhills 53, Triton 36
Overhills (1-0) opened its season with a county-rivalry win at Triton (0-2) Tuesday evening. The Lady Jaguars won each period and led 29-19 at halftime.
Je'Nae Harvey led the Lady Hawks with nine points.
Triton moves on to the Harnett County Tip-Off Tournament beginning Monday at Campbell. Overhills will host Western Harnett at 6:30 p.m. Friday, then will play in the Harnett County Tip-Off next week.
Triton won the JV game Tuesday evening 51-10.
Northwood 43, Panther Creek 29
The Lady Chargers, opening their season trying to build on a 24-5 overall record a season ago, were trailing by a bucket at halftime before going on to win at Panther Creek (0-1) Tuesday night.
Northwood (1-0) trailed 19-17 at the half before winning the third quarter 12-4.
Junior guard Shontai Totten led the Lady Chargers with 16 points and freshman Kristian Eanes added 10 points.
Northwood went 15-1 in the Carolina 12 Conference last season and is now in the 3A Big Eight Conference.
The Lady Chargers will host Southern Lee at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
North Moore 68, Faith Christian 41
The Lady Mustangs (1-0) started their season with a victory at home Tuesday evening. North Moore hosts Pinecrest at 6 p.m. this evening.
