Sandhills Golf Talk teeing up 10th year

Sandhills Golf Talk will hit the local airways the Thursday of The Masters, April 10, for the 10th consecutive years as the Sandhills area top golf talk radio show. The show will air each Thursday from 7-9 p.m. on WFJA 105.5 FM.

Local golf professionals Jon Hockaday, of Anderson Creek Golf Club, and Doug Thompson, of Southern Pines Country Club, will talk about the latest in the golf world including tournament updates, industry news, equipment and the upcoming U.S. Opens in Pinehurst in June.

USGA Executive Director Mike Davis will be a guest on the April 17 show discussing the Open championships. Guests from past shows have included Hank Haney, golf writers Jamie Diaz and James Dodson and numrous PGA and LPGA tour players.


Chatham County Senior Games starting April 29

The 2014 Chatham County Senior Games will be held in various locations throughout the county April 29 thru May 9. The Senior Games seeks to keep the body, mind, and spirit fit while fostering enjoyment with friends, family, spectators and volunteers. Seniors age 50 years and better are eligible to participate.

Sporting events include basketball shoot, billiards, bocce, cornhole, croquet, cycling, football throw, one-mile fun walk, golf, bowling, horseshoes, softball throw, swimming, tennis and track and field events. Along with athletic competitions, silver arts events will include creative categories ranging from basket weaving and pottery to performing arts and poetry.

Devil's Ridge hosting state championship for 23rd year

Devil's Ridge Motocross in Sanford will host the 23rd Annual Honda-Suzuki of Sanford North Carolina State Championship Race Saturday and Sunday. Devil's Ridge is located at 983 King Farm Road, Sanford.

The weekend will begin with practice from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.

On Sunday, beginning at 9:15 a.m., more than 40 classes will be in action for state titles. Contingencies and awards will add up to $23,000 and a $3,500 pro purse is guaranteed.

Admission is $20 for adults and $10 for children ages 5-12 on Saturday and $10 adults, $5 children on Sunday.


Summer gymnastics sign-ups

Lee County Parks and Recreation gymnastics class registration will be held May 29 and 30, from 3-6 p.m. both days, at Lee County Gymnastics, 221 Commercial Court in Sanford.

Youth track and field sign-ups underway
Lee County Parks and Recreation is offering youth track and field again this spring. The program is for boys and girls ages 9-14. Registration is $10 and open now through April 18.

Lee County tee ball sign-ups
* Registration for Lee County Parks and Recreation's pre-school tee ball league is open now through May 16 at the Parks and Recreation Office, 2303 Tramway Road in Sanford, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
The league is for boys and girls age 3-4. The fee is $20. Parent participation is required. The age is determined as of May 1, 2014. New players are required to bring a copy of their birth certificate. For more information, please call (919) 775-2107 ext. 502.

* Registration for Lee County Parks and Recreation's t-ball league for boys ages 5-6 and girls ages 5-7 is open now through May 16.
