Patriots snap Richmond's streak, win 21-7

Pinecrest 21, Richmond County 7

Pinecrest (9-1, 3-1) moved into second place in the Southeastern Conference with its first-ever home win over Richmond (8-2, 3-1) Friday night in Southern Pines.

The Patriot defense forced four fumbles, three of which were recovered by defensive lineman Malik Newsome, and Troy Roper carried for two of the Patriot touchdowns.

Sophomore quarterback Christian Ledbetter scored on a 3-yard run to give the Patriots the lead in the first quarter.

An 11-yard touchdown run by Roper gave the Patriots the lead again in the second quarter and his 35-yard touchdown run made it a 21-7 lead in the fourth quarter.

Ledbetter rushed 22 times for 61 yards and was 3-for-5 passing for 12 yards. Josh McCoy had nine carries for 43 yards and Joe Anderson had two carries for 42 yards.

The Patriots will play their regular-season finale at Hoke County at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

 
Gray's Creek 50, Union Pines 8

Gray's Creek (5-5, 3-2) scored the last 43 points of the game to win a Cape Fear Valley game in Cameron Friday night.

Viking quarterback Justin Jackson scored on a 5-yard run and the Vikings got the two-point conversion for an 8-7 lead in the first quarter.

Calvin Boyd led the visitors with 16 carries for 188 yards and three touchdowns.

Senior running back Kaleb Johnson rushed for 147 yards for the Vikings. Demarius Hampton had three catches for 60 yards.

The Vikings (4-7, 1-5) have completed their regular season and wait to see about a state playoff berth. The NCHSAA State Playoff fields will be announced this coming Saturday.

 
North Moore 51, Chatham Central 38

The Mustangs scored 42 points in the second half and rallied to defeat Chatham Central for the first time since 2009, along with spoiling homecoming night, in Bear Creek Friday night.

The Bears (1-9, 0-7) led 16-9 at halftime before the Mustangs (2-9, 2-6) came back to win.

Chatham Central has a Yadkin Valley game at South Davidson at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

North Moore has two wins in a season for the first time since 2007. The Mustangs are off next Friday and will wait to find out if they get a state playoff berth.

 
Jordan-Matthews 25, Bartlett Yancey 20

Jordan-Matthews (4-6, 2-2) made it back-to-back Mid-State Conference wins at Bartlett Yancey (2-8, 0-4) Friday night.

The Jets trailed 14-13 at halftime and 20-19 going to the fourth quarter. The Jets avenged a Bartlett Yancey win from last season.

The Jets will go for a winning Mid-State mark when they host Cummings at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

 
East Wake 31, Harnett Central 14

East Wake (4-6, 3-2) beat the visiting Trojans (1-8, 0-5) in a Greater Neuse River game Friday night. Harnett Central will host West Johnston at 7 p.m. Friday.

 
E.E. Smith 40, Overhills 14

E.E. Smith (5-5, 1-4) got its first Mid-South Athletic win while the host Jaguars (2-8, 0-5) lost their sixth straight game Friday in Spring Lake.

Overhills will finish its regular season at Jack Britt at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
