Patriots go to 4-0 with 55-0 win
Pinecrest 55, Parkland 0
The Patriots routed visiting Parkland (0-4) in their home opener in Southern Pines Friday night, going to a 4-0 record.
Quarterback Christian Ledbetter opened the Patriot scoring with a 9-yard touchdown run. Pinecrest kept going to a 43-0 lead by halftime. Keegan Good's 72-yard interception return for a touchdown was the last score of the opening half.
Josh McCoy, Joe Anderson, Darius Stoner and Bradley Black rushed for one touchdown each. Ledbetter finished going 3-for-3 for 51 yards and a touchdown passing and having eight carries for 50 yards and a touchdown. Black led the Patriots with 86 rushing yards on three carries.
Pinecrest will visit Southern Lee (1-3) this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Union Pines 31, Trinity 22
The Vikings (3-1) won their third straight game in Cameron Friday night as quarterback Max Yates passed for 213 yards and three touchdowns.
Trinity scored the opening touchdown on a fumble return. On the ensuing kickoff, Robert Collins went for a 91-yard touchdown return making it 7-6 Trinity.
Yates connected with Tyler McRae for a 69-yard touchdown pass to put the Vikings ahead 12-7 still in the first quarter.
After another Trinity touchdown, fullback Blake Lawrence scored on a 2-yard run and the Vikings led 18-14 at halftime.
In the second half, Yates passed to Demarius Hampton for a 27-yard touchdown, then to Joseph Giesler for a 12-yard touchdown, and the Vikings led 31-14.
Lawrence led the Viking ground game with 14 carries for 64 yards and a touchdown.
The Vikings, with a 3-1 mark for the first time since 2009, will host Western Harnett (0-4) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
South Stanly 34, North Moore 14
The Rowdy Rebel Bulls (1-2, 1-0) trailed 14-7 in the second quarter before going on to their first win of the year in a Yadkin Valley game in Robbins Friday.
After South Stanly got the first touchdown, North Moore quarterback Malik McCrimmon passed for the next two touchdowns, both to Patrick Harner.
South Stanly made it 14-14 at halftime and shut out the Mustangs (0-4, 0-1) in the second half.
McCrimmon went 17-for-37 for 164 yards and two touchdowns passing. The Mustangs totaled 202 passing yards. Aaron Richardson had eight catches for 90 yards. Harner had five catches for 87 yards and both touchdowns, James Bond rushed 17 times for 42 yards.
North Moore will host West Montgomery at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
West Montgomery 68, Chatham Central 0
The Warriors (3-1, 1-0) hammered visiting Chatham Central (1-3, 0-1) in a Yadkin Valley Conference game Friday night. The Bears were coming on after their first win of the season, 42-16 versus Kestrel Heights, last Friday.
Chatham Central will visit YVC foe Albemarle, a 41-0 victor at East Montgomery on Friday night, at 7:30 p.m. this coming Friday.
Parkwood 40, Jordan-Matthews 20
Parkwood (2-2) scored 20 straight points to build up a 27-7 lead in the first half in Siler City Friday night.
Trajan Glover rushed for a Jet touchdown to make it a 7-7 score, then added a 68-yard touchdown run in the second half, making Parkwood's lead 33-20 at that point.
Parkwood rushed for 165 yards and five touchdowns on the night.
Jordan-Matthews (2-2) will play at Eastern Randolph at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Overhills 46, Harnett Central 19
The Jaguars (2-2) made it back-to-back wins in their county series with Harnett Central (1-3) Friday night in Spring Lake.
Overhills will play at Lee County (3-1) at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Harnett Central will open its Greater Neuse River schedule at Clayton at 7 p.m. on Sept. 27.
