99-yard punt return takes Triton to 5-0
Triton 27, Gray's Creek 21
Juwan Thompson returned a Gray's Creek punt 99 yards for a touchdown with 2:15 left for what stood up as the winning touchdown for Triton (5-0) at home in Erwin Friday night.
Gray's Creek (2-3) led 21-13 going to the fourth quarter. DeAngelo Harris scored on a 38-yard touchdown run with 3:08 left in the game. The Hawk defense forced a three-and-out and a Bear punt, leading to Thompson's touchdown.
The Hawks totaled 238 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. Senior Zach Wade led the Hawk running game with 10 carries for 113 yards. Senior linebacker Brad Miller led Triton's defense with 14 tackles and 1.5 sacks.
Triton will play its last non-conference game of the regular season on Friday, at Rocky Mount at 7:30 p.m.
Gray's Creek will open its Cape Fear Valley slate at Lee County at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Eastern Randolph 17, Jordan-Matthews 16
Eastern Randolph (2-3) avenged a one-point Jet victory last season with a one-point win Friday night.
Eastern Randolph scored the go-ahead touchdown with 3:44 remaining, coming back from what was a 16-7 Jet lead late in the third quarter. The Wildcats blocked a 43-yard Jet field goal attempt with 0:14 remaining.
For the Jets, Tre' Jones scored a touchdown with a 7-yard run in the second quarter. Josh Hudson passed to Jackson Rogers for an 11-yard touchdown to give the Jets a 16-7 lead with two minutes to play in the third quarter.
The Jets hit the road to Western Harnett for a 7:30 p.m. kick on Friday.
West Montgomery 56, North Moore 14
West Montgomery (4-1, 2-0) made it two Yadkin Valley Conference wins and 124 points scored in two weeks in Robbins Friday night.
The Mustangs (0-5, 0-2) will travel to face North Stanly (3-1, 1-0) in a YVC game at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Albemarle 79, Chatham Central 0
Albemarle (3-2, 2-0) romped out to a 56-0 halftime lead on the visiting Bears for an easy YVC win Friday night.
Albemarle totaled 331 rushing yards and better than 11 yards per carry. Senior Kevin McKinney carried eight times for 140 yards and two touchdowns.
The Bears (1-4, 0-2) will host East Montgomery for a conference game at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
