Area scores: Richmond tops Pinecrest in both SEC diamond finals

Softball

Richmond 4, Pinecrest 2

Richmond (25-0) took a 4-2 lead with three runs in the bottom of the fifth and won the Southeastern Conference Tournament title Friday night in Rockingham.

Pinecrest (13-6) scored two runs and took a 2-1 lead in the fourth. Erica Groff went 2 for 2 with a double and an RBI. Danielle Gollehon also had an RBI. Bobbie McDaniel pitched a complete game for the Lady Patriots, allowing seven hits and two earned runs.

The Lady Patriots will be a No. 2 seed for the NCHSAA 4A State Tournament which is set to start Wednesday.


Baseball

Northwood 14, Southern Durham 1

The Chargers (11-10, 9-5) celebrated their senior night and regular-season finale by jumping out to a 9-0 lead in the first inning Friday evening in Pittsboro. Northwood edged Southern Durham 2-1 in Durham Tuesday.

Northwood has a four-game winning streak going into the NCHSAA 3A State Tournament which gets started on Wednesday.


Richmond 7, Pinecrest 2

The No. 1-seeded and host Raiders (17-6) won the Southeastern Conference Tournament championship Friday night, beating the Patriots (19-5) for the second time in three games this season.

Dalton Bullard's two-RBI double drew Pinecrest within a 4-2 deficit in the fourth inning but that's all the Patriots got versus Richmond senior Nic Bullard, who pitched a complete game.

Pinecrest will be a No. 2 seed for the NCHSAA 4A State Tournament.


Girls soccer

Chatham Charter 3, Community Baptist 0

The Lady Knights (4-9-1) won their third straight match Friday at Community Baptist. Chatham Charter continued play in the Community Baptist Invitational yesterday.
