Pinecrest 2, Harnett Central 0

Pinecrest (18-1-2), the No. 2 seed in the East half of the NCHSAA 4A State Tournament bracket, got a goal in each half to beat No. 31 Harnett Central (8-11-2) Wednesday night in Southern Pines. Gerardo Peraza and Rene Cruz had a goal each for the Patriots.

Pinecrest will host No. 18 Broughton (10-8-2) in the second round at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Chapel Hill 5, Union Pines 0

The No. 32-seeded Vikings stayed in the match against top-seeded Chapel Hill (22-1-1) until the hosts scored four goals in the second half to pull away in the first round of the NCHSAA 3A State Tournament on Wednesday.

Senior goalkeeper Matt Cooper, who's committed to playing at UNC Greensboro, made 18 saves for the Vikings. Union Pines finishes the season 7-12-3.

Chapel Hill will host Northwood in the second round at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Northwood 5, Gray's Creek 2

No. 16 Northwood (12-7-1) rolled past visiting No. 17 Gray's Creek (12-9-1) in a first-round match Wednesday night.

The Chargers will visit No. 1 Chapel Hill Saturday night. Chapel Hill beat the Chargers 4-1 and 5-1 in two Big Eight Conference matches this season.


Jordan-Matthews 4, Roanoke Rapids 2

No. 17 Jordan-Matthews scored twice in the last 15 minutes to break up a 2-2 score and win in the 2A first round at No. 16 Roanoke Rapids (15-6) Wednesday night.

The Jets (13-6-1) will travel to play No. 1 First Flight (19-0) on Saturday at 7 p.m.

North Moore 11, West Columbus 0

North Moore (16-3-1), the No. 2 seed in the 1A Midwest Region, routed No. 15 West Columbus (2-13-1) in Robbins Wednesday night. The Mustangs, the East Division champs in the Yadkin Valley Conference, will host YVC mate No. 7 Albemarle (12-9) at 7 p.m. Saturday.
