Crusaders top O'Neal twice

Grace Christian 57, O'Neal 51

The Crusaders (6-3) beat O'Neal (2-3) for the second time in a week, winning in Southern Pines Tuesday night.

Robert Fulton scored Grace's first 11 points, including three three-pointers, as the Crusaders jumped out to an 11-2 lead. Mark Riches led all scorers with 19 points while B.J. Harrison had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

The Falcons kept the game close with a balanced attack. Garrett Klumper scored 13 points, Theo Johnson and Jack Johnston had 12 points each and Jacob Talbert added 10 points.

The Crusaders sealed the win by making 10-of-12 free throws in the final minutes. Freshman Zach Boggs made the defensive play of the game with 0:35 left, blocking a three-point shot which could've cut Grace's lead to a point, then getting the rebound and making two foul shots after getting fouled.

"They (O'Neal) have some crazy student fans and it is not an easy place to win," said Grace Christian head coach Tim Murr. "They are well-coached and talented and we are just happy to get out with a win. I thought we did a great job of playing smart at the end and converting from the line."

Grace Christian hosts Burlington Christian tonight at 7:15 p.m., then plays at city rival Lee Christian Friday at 8 p.m.

Eastern Randolph 84, Chatham Central 59

Eastern Randolph (4-0) spoiled Chatham Central's home opener Tuesday night. The Wildcats held a 37-36 halftime edge before winning the third quarter 35-8 putting the game out of reach.

Tyrrell Watts led the Wildcats with 20 points. LaQuinn Mordecai led the Bears with 18 points. Jeremy Kerr had 14 points and Zack Burke had 13 points and seven rebounds for CC.

Chatham Central (0-2) hosted Jordan-Matthews last night and will host East Montgomery Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Terry Sanford 64, Union Pines 52

Terry Sanford (3-0) completed a season sweep over the Vikings (3-2) in Fayetteville Tuesday night.

Matthew Maness led the Vikings with 12 points. Malik Crawford and Luke Davis scored 11 points each and Mike Quick added eight points.

Union Pines visits Jordan-Matthews Friday for a 7:30 p.m. tip.

Pinecrest 65, Jack Britt 58

The Patriots (4-1) won their third straight game and avenged a 54-42 loss to Jack Britt from two weeks ago at Jack Britt (1-2) Tuesday night.

Pinecrest travels to central Pennsylvania to play in the Berwick Area High School Tournament Friday and Saturday.


Lee Christian 57, Wayne Christian 34

Lee Christian rolled to a lopsided Carolina Christian Conference win on the road Tuesday night. The Falcons (1-4, 1-0) will host city and CCC rival Grace Christian Friday with an 8 p.m. tip.


North Moore 73, South Stanly 68

The host Mustangs opened their Yadkin Valley Conference season edging the Rowdy Rebel Bulls (0-3, 0-1) Tuesday night.

North Moore (2-3, 1-0) plays at North Rowan Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Girls basketball

Grace Christian 73, O'Neal 24

Grace Christian jumped out to a 24-4 lead in the opening period and won easily at O'Neal Tuesday night in Southern Pines.

Anna Murr made 6-of-8 three-pointers and totaled 33 points to go with seven assists and five steals for the Lady Crusaders (7-2). Brooke Strickland had her third quadruple-double of the season with 16 points, 15 rebounds, 14 assists and 10 steals. Alexis Ross had 13 points and 10 assists.

Taylor Shelton led the Lady Falcons with eight points and Mary Dixon had six points.

"I am extremely pleased with our effort," said Lady Crusader head coach Joel Murr. "We make mistakes but our intensity is there."

"They are extremely unselfish. It is amazing what a team can accomplish when no one cares who gets the credit," Murr said.

O'Neal (0-5) hosts Fayetteville Academy tonight at 6 p.m. Grace Christian hosts Burlington Christian tonight at 5:45 p.m., then plays at Lee Christian tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.

Eastern Randolph 35, Chatham Central 32

Chatham Central trailed 29-16 going to the fourth quarter and got to within three points of Eastern Randolph twice down the stretch but no closer at Bear Creek Tuesday.

Caroline Cox led Eastern Randolph with 15 points and Jasmine Caviness scored 11 points.

Ashley Hudson and Jordan Culberson scored eight points each for the Lady Bears.

Chatham Central (0-2) hosted Jordan-Matthews last night and will host East Montgomery Friday at 6 p.m.


Terry Sanford 48, Union Pines 33

With a 15-3 advantage in the second quarter, Terry Sanford (3-0) opened up a 24-9 halftime lead over the visiting Lady Vikings (2-3) Tuesday night.

Charlotte Holder, with 12 points and 14 rebounds, and Stephanie Johnson, with 11 points and 12 boards, had double-doubles for the Lady Vikings.

Union Pines plays at Jordan-Matthews Friday at 6 p.m.


Jack Britt 48, Pinecrest 46

Jack Britt beat the Lady Patriots (3-2) for the second time this season Tuesday in Fayetteville. Pinecrest played Fayetteville Christian last night. Next up, the Lady Patriots visit Mount Zion Tuesday night.


Lee Christian 44, Wayne Christian 21

The Lady Falcons (5-1, 2-0) rolled to their easiest win of the season, and a CCC win, in Goldsboro Tuesday evening.

Lee Christian hosts Sanford and conference rival Grace Christian for the first meeting this season Friday at 6:30 p.m.
