Area scores: Lady Jackets sweep Westover, host Dig Hope game tonight

Lee County d. Westover 25-7, 25-11, 25-8

Lee County (13-4, 9-2) swept the visiting Lady Wolverines and, along with Southern Lee topping Terry Sanford Tuesday evening, the Lady Yellow Jackets moved into sole possession of first place in the Cape Fear Valley volleyball standings with one match to play.

Lee County leads Terry Sanford by a game. The Lady Jackets are hosting Southern Lee at 5:30 p.m. this evening for the annual Yellow Jacket and Cavalier Dig Hope Night to raise money and awareness to fight breast cancer. The Lady Jackets would clinch the CFVC title, in its first CFVC season, with a victory.

In Tuesday evening’s JV match, Lee County swept Westover 2-0.

Southern Lee 3, Terry Sanford 2

The Lady Cavaliers (9-5, 7-4) swept Terry Sanford (9-9, 8-3) for the regular season with a marathon win in Fayetteville on Tuesday. If the Lady Cavaliers top Lee County tonight, they could finish as high as a tie for second in the CFVC.

The Cape Fear Valley Conference Tournament is set to begin Monday with the higher seeds hosting first-round matches.

Gray’s Creek d. Union Pines 25-21, 25-20, 25-16

Gray’s Creek (11-7, 5-6) upset visiting Union Pines (14-6, 8-4) in the last regular-season match for the Lady Vikings Tuesday night.

Triton d. Western Harnett 25-9, 25-10, 25-14

Triton (14-2, 9-0) stayed perfect in the Two Rivers with a sweep at Western Harnett (7-11, 3-6) Tuesday evening. The Lady Hawks have won the Two Rivers season championship.

Triton hosts Corinth Holders at 5:30 p.m. this evening. Western Harnett plays at Cleveland at 5 p.m. today.

Cresset Christian d. Grace Christian 25-14, 25-11, 25-13

The Lady Crusaders defeated Wayne Christian in the opening round of the Carolina Christian Conference Tournament on Monday, but fell at Cresset Christian in the quarterfinals Tuesday. Grace Christian finishes the season with a 6-12 record.

Orange d. Northwood 25-10, 25-10, 25-23

Orange swept the Lady Chargers (4-10, 2-9) in a Big Eight match Tuesday night. Northwood plays at Northern Vance at 6 p.m. tonight.

West Montgomery d. North Moore 25-17, 25-20, 25-23

West Montgomery swept visiting North Moore in a Yadkin Valley match Tuesday night. North Moore (10-7, 7-6) ends its regular season hosting Chatham Central at 6 p.m. tonight.

East Wake d. Harnett Central 13-25, 25-20, 17-25, 27-25, 15-11

East Wake (7-9, 7-6) edged Harnett Central in five sets for the second time this season. The Lady Trojans (2-16, 2-9) play at West Johnston at 5:30 p.m. this evening.

Village Christian 3, O’Neal 0

Village Christian (15-4, 7-0) beat the visiting Lady Falcons in a Cape Fear Independent match Tuesday. O’Neal (3-12, 1-5) hosts Fayetteville Christian at 5:15 p.m. this evening.

Chatham Central d. South Davidson 25-13, 25-18, 25-23

The Lady Bears (6-14, 5-10) completed a season sweep versus South Davidson Tuesday night. Chatham Central plays its regular-season finale at North Moore at 6 p.m. tonight.

Bartlett Yancey d. Jordan-Matthews 25-6, 25-11, 25-19

The Lady Buccaneers won in straight sets at Jordan-Matthews (3-15, 2-5) Tuesday night. Jordan-Matthews played at Reidsville last night and plays at Cummings to end its regular season at 6 p.m. tonight.

Grace Christian 9, Wayne Christian 0

The top-seeded Crusaders (21-2-1) advanced to the Carolina Christian Conference Tournament semifinals with their 17th straight victory Tuesday. Grace Christian will face Northwood Temple in a semifinal at 4:30 p.m. today at Lee Christian.

Cardinal Gibbons 5, Northwood 0

Cardinal Gibbons completed a regular-season sweep over the Chargers in Pittsboro Tuesday night. Northwood (7-6, 4-4) played at J.F. Webb last night and is set to host Cedar Ridge Monday at 7 p.m.

O’Neal 4, Village Christian 1

The Falcons won their seventh straight match, breaking up a 1-1 score with three goals in the final 17 minutes to get a Cape Fear Independent Conference win at Village Christian Tuesday afternoon.

Bradley Miller, Tyler Sinclair, Zackery Eiserman and Richard Catania had a goal each for the Falcons (9-6-1, 6-2-0).

O’Neal hosts Fayetteville Christian for a CFIC match at 4:45 p.m. today.

Overhills 4, Seventy-First 1

The Jaguars (6-6-2, 5-3-1) won a Mid-South Athletic match on the road Tuesday night. Overhills played Pine Forest last night. The Jaguars will go to E.E. Smith for a match at 6 p.m. Monday.
