Cavs, Terry Sanford share CFVC lead

Southern Lee 68, Westover 65
Southern Lee (10-4, 4-0) won a battle of Cape Fear Valley Conference unbeatens Friday night on Cavalier Court.
Sophomore guard Noah Mellette led the Cavaliers with 23 points. Kevin McLeod scored 14 points with Larry McLeod getting 11 and Justin McKinnon getting eight.
The victory gives the Cavs four straight wins and keeps them tied for first place, now only with Terry Sanford after Friday night's games, in the CFVC.
Eddie Jackson and Jaquez Manning scored 14 points each for the Wolverines (10-4, 3-1).
Southern Lee won the boys JV game 55-39.
The Cavaliers will play at Terry Sanford at 7:30 p.m. Friday for sole possession of first place in the league.


Terry Sanford 58, Lee County 36
Terry Sanford (13-2, 4-0) handed the visiting Yellow Jackets (13-2, 3-1) their first CFVC defeat Friday night in Fayetteville. The Bulldogs held Lee County to 18 points in each half.
Mark Gilbert led the Bulldogs with 18 points. Terry Sanford led 24-18 at halftime and pulled away to a 47-29 lead going to the fourth quarter.
Dewaun McEachin led the Jackets with 13 points.
Lee County's home games against Carrboro, scheduled for Tuesday night, have been rescheduled to Jan. 25 with the varsity games set for 6 and 7:30 p.m. Next up, the Yellow Jackets will play at Westover at 7:30 p.m. Friday.


Union Pines 66, Douglas Byrd 57
Union Pines (7-8, 1-4) got its first CFVC win and made it three wins in the last four games prevailing at Douglas Byrd (1-13, 1-5) Friday night.
Junior guard Tyler Packer led the Vikings with 18 points while junior teammates Malik Crawford and Joseph Bibey scored 15 points apiece.
The Vikings will continue CFVC play hosting Gray's Creek at 7:30 p.m. Friday.


Chatham Central 78, South Davidson 63
Sophomore Matt Clark scored a career-high 25 points leading the Bears to a Yadkin Valley Conference win at home Friday night.
Clark made 3 of 6 three-pointers on the night and grabbed six rebounds. Zack Burke had 21 points and 12 rebounds. Scotty Polston netted 12 points on 4-of-5 three-point shooting.
The Bears (6-6, 3-2) continue YVC play at home Tuesday versus North Stanly with a 7:30 p.m. tip.


Cedar Ridge 58, Northwood 43
The Fighting Red Wolves (6-9, 2-3) kept the visiting Chargers (4-10, 0-5) winless in the Big Eight Conference Friday night. Northwood's dropped four straight games.
Ti Pinnix led the Chargers with 15 points. Jared Worley added 10 points.
Northwood will host Northern Vance at 7 p.m. Friday.


Jordan-Matthews 69, Reidsville 55
The Jets jumped out to a 17-7 lead through one period and kept going for their first Mid-State Conference win of the season Friday night in Siler City.
Jordan-Matthews (7-6, 1-1) has won three of its last four overall. The Jets will play at Carrboro Friday night.


Cresset Christian 60, Lee Christian 25
Cresset Christian (10-2, 5-1) built up a 32-10 halftime lead and won a Carolina Christian Conference game at Lee Christian Friday night.
The Falcons (0-8, 0-5) will host Trinity Christian at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.


Western Harnett 47, Smithfield-Selma 36
The Eagles (2-13, 2-0) topped the Spartans in Lillington Friday night, moving into sole possession of first place in the Two Rivers Conference. Western Harnett will continue conference play at South Johnston at 8 p.m. Friday.


Cleveland 65, Triton 56
Cleveland (7-7, 1-1) stopped a seven-game Triton (9-5, 1-1) winning streak in a Two Rivers Conference contest in Erwin Friday night.
Chris Eason had 12 points and six rebounds for the Hawks. D'Angelo Harris and Nick Parker added 10 points each with Harris nabbing eight steals.
Triton will host Smithfield-Selma for a conference game at 8 p.m. Friday.


Overhills 66, Pine Forest 64
The Jaguars (8-5, 2-2) edged Pine Forest for a Mid-South Athletic Conference win at home Friday night. Overhills will go to Harnett Central for a 7:30 p.m. start Tuesday night.


Lumberton 77, Pinecrest 67
Lumberton (8-6, 1-0) beat visiting Pinecrest (3-9, 0-1) in the Southeastern Conference opener for both teams Friday.
Stephon Stephens led Pinecrest with 26 points and Brandon Harrell added 11 points.
The Patriots will play at Scotland at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.


North Moore 65, West Montgomery 44
The Mustangs led 28-25 at halftime and ran away from the visiting Warriors (2-9, 1-4) from there to stay undefeated in Yadkin Valley play Friday night. North Moore (8-5, 5-0) won the third period 20-10.
The Mustangs will host Albemarle at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.


Cape Fear Academy 44, O'Neal 33
Cape Fear Academy (9-3, 1-1) pulled out a Cape Fear Independent Conference win in Southern Pines Friday night. The Falcons (3-9, 0-2) will host Village Christian for a CFIC game at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Westover 68, Southern Lee 58
The Lady Wolverines (6-9, 3-1) got 30 points from Kylah Saylon and won a Cape Fear Valley Conference clash at Cavalier Court Friday night.
From a 43-43 tie through three quarters, Westover won the last quarter 25-15.
Jordanna Kalkhof led the Lady Cavaliers with 21 points including five three-pointers. Rachel Wilson had 16 points and nine rebounds. Makenzie Cicogna had nine points and eight rebounds. Jasmine McIver had five points and seven assists.
Southern Lee (7-7, 2-2) will play a CFVC game at Terry Sanford at 6 p.m. Friday.


Terry Sanford 56, Lee County 25
The Lady Bulldogs (8-7, 2-2) cruised to a CFVC win on their home floor Friday night. Courtney Roulhac led Terry Sanford with 19 points.
Shantel Bennett had six points and Noelle Beattie added five points for Lee County. Maritza Santos had a team-high eight boards.
The Lady Yellow Jackets (5-10, 1-3) will play at Westover at 6 p.m. Friday. Lee County's home date with Carrboro, scheduled for Tuesday evening, has been rescheduled to Jan. 25.


Union Pines 64, Douglas Byrd 25
The Lady Vikings (13-2, 5-0) remained perfect in the CFVC with an easy win at Douglas Byrd (0-12, 0-5) Friday night. Union Pines led 29-10 at halftime and 57-18 through three quarters.
Center Stephanie Johnson had 19 points, six rebounds and five steals for the Lady Vikings. Maresa Smith had 12 points, six boards and three assists while Nyona Shields had nine points and four assists.
Union Pines has a five-game winning streak. UP will host Gray's Creek at 6 p.m. Friday.


Cresset Christian 35, Lee Christian 13
Cresset Christian defeated the Lady Falcons in a Carolina Christian Conference game in Sanford Friday night. Lee Christian (0-9, 0-5) will host Trinity Christian at 5 p.m. Tuesday.


Chatham Central 49, South Davidson 40
Chatham Central rallied for a Yadkin Valley Conference win at home Friday night. South Davidson led 22-15 at halftime and still by a bucket going to the fourth. The Lady Bears (6-7, 3-2) won the fourth quarter 21-10 to get the victory.
Senior Ashley Hudson led Chatham Central with 21 points.
Chatham Central will host North Stanly for a YVC game at 6 p.m. Tuesday.


Cedar Ridge 46, Northwood 37
Cedar Ridge (9-6, 3-2) got 20 points from junior Kacia Vines and won a Big Eight game at Northwood (9-4, 1-3) Friday night.
The Lady Chargers led 11-4 after a quarter. Cedar Ridge answered to move ahead 19-17 by halftime, then won the third quarter 9-1.
Jazanae Billings scored eight points and Jasmine Atkins had seven points for the Lady Chargers.
Northwood will play at Northern Vance at 7 p.m. Friday.


Reidsville 61, Jordan-Matthews 44
Reidsville (10-0, 1-0) won its Mid-State Conference opener at Jordan-Matthews (4-9, 1-1) Friday night. The Lady Rams led 30-18 at halftime.
The Lady Jets will play at Carrboro at 6 p.m. Friday.


Cleveland 53, Triton 35
Cleveland (5-9, 2-0) outscored the visiting Lady Hawks 14-1 in the second quarter for an 18-9 halftime lead and kept pulling away in the second half for a Two Rivers Conference win Friday night.
Je'nae Harvey led Triton with 11 points and Kadizah Gaulden added 10 points.
Triton (4-10, 0-2) will host Smithfield-Selma at 6:30 p.m. Friday.


Pine Forest 50, Overhills 49
Pine Forest (8-7, 2-3) edged the Lady Jaguars in a Mid-South Athletic game in Spring Lake.
Jaylen Smalls had 15 points and eight steals for Overhills while Janna Aultman had 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lady Jaguars (7-3, 1-3) will visit Harnett Central Tuesday for a 6 p.m. start.


West Montgomery 63, North Moore 44
The Lady Warriors topped visiting North Moore in a Yadkin Valley Conference game Friday night. North Moore (4-8, 2-4) will host Faith Christian at 6 p.m. Monday.


Lumberton 58, Pinecrest 32
Lumberton (10-4, 1-0) rolled to a win over the Lady Patriots (3-8, 0-1) in the Southeastern Conference opener for both squads Friday night.
Jasmine Chambers led the Lady Patriots with 14 points. Pinecrest will play an SEC game at Scotland at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
