Late three lifts Robert Morris over Camels
Karvel Anderson hit a three-pointer from the right wing with 4.5 seconds to play and Robert Morris claimed a 61-58 win over Campbell Tuesday night at Gore Arena.
After CU's Marvelle Harris tied the game on a stick-back with 27.4 seconds left, Velton Jones drove to the basket; then kicked the ball out to Anderson, who drained his fourth triple of the game.
Trey Freeman’s attempt from the top of the key at the buzzer rimmed out to give the Colonials (5-4) their second straight victory.
Lucky Jones led Robert Morris (5-4) with 15 points while Anderson added 13.
Playing a second-straight game without the nation’s 11th-leading scorer, Darren White (21.9 ppg), who sat out with a hand injury, the Camels shot 52 percent from the floor and 61.5 percent (16-26) in the second half but committed 20 turnovers, which the Colonials converted into 22 points.
Harris scored a career-high 21 points on 9-of-11 from the floor and 3-of-4 from the stripe, while grabbing 10 rebounds for his third career double-double. Reco McCarter added 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting and Freeman dealt six assists for Campbell (3-6).
The Camels finished with a 34-24 edge on the glass and outscored the Colonials 36-16 in the paint.
Campbell trailed 30-25 before reeling off nine straight points and led 34-30 on Harris’ follow shot with 13:29 to go.
“We took a big step in creating the mentality to develop the team we want to have,” said Campbell head coach Robbie Laing.
“We defended and rebounded well, were first to the floor most of the night, but unfortunately we turned the ball over too many times. Robert Morris is a very good basketball team that found a way to win on the road," Laing said.
After a week-long break for final exams, Campbell returns to action Dec. 12 at home versus Rio Grande.
